River fishing on 14 ft jon boat

Is a 14 ft.jon boat with a 9.9 4 stroke enough boat and motor for the small rivers. Is it safe and would it make it back up stream. I fish near Croaton Dam...Pere Marquet near Ludington-Custer. I have 50 pound of chain anchor and will start on the support soon.

um, ive fished all these rivers with a rowboats and trolling motor, so anything bigger should be ok, just careful you dont go to big lots of shallow spots
