fishing lessons

i live in jackson missouri, does anyone know of any fishing classes or courses near us that I could take my son and myself and learn to be better fishermen? thanks for any help you can give!!

I don't know how close that is to bass pro shops but i believe they have different seminars you could probly find out online. I believe in trial and error i think you retain the knowledge of what works and doesn't work for you better but good advice is always welcome and useful

Welcome to BFT. Some states offer lessons so check with your DEP. Boat and outdoor sportsman shows also will offer free seminars. Now we can google to learn all we need to know. Any questions are welcomed here, so ask away. Nothing beats just getting out there and wetting a line. It's all about putting your time in. Good luck in 09.

Hey, man. I feel your pain. I had fished as a kid, but mostly on my own so three or four years ago when I wanted to get into fishing I did not have the slightest idea what to do or use or target. I found that the advice I got from the fellows at the big sporting shops did not help much.
I found a seminar offered through our local (Vancouver, Washington) parks and rec. It was somewhat helpful in finding which bodies of water locally to target and techniques/tackle to use.
The most useful thing I found was the on-line fishing community. This site helped a lot and there is a local fishing site that I read for a long time and it was good except that some folks just do not like to give out locations of their "honey holes" to just anyone. I did make a local connection with another fisherman and he and I went out together a few times and it was very helpful.
