good day at yuba.
#1
Got there at 7:30 and drilled some holes. Found fish every where but they were not biting. At 11:00 we had a couple but it was starting to look like it wasnt going to be a very good day. Then bam, they just started pounding us. We ended up with thirtyone perch between the four of us. My buddy ctroutman was looking for pike and we dont know what it was he cought but it busted 10 pound line. We will never know, but its fun to dream about the big pike that busted his line. ha ha.[Smile]
oh by the way cant figure out date on camera. this was 1-31-09

Looks like the ice was in good shape. How were the edges? Did you fish painted or oasis? Depth?

Well the ice was 8 to 10 inches. We were at oasis and the edges were fine. They got a little soft by the time we left but only about 10 to 15 inches from shore. Heres the weird thing, we were fishing in 20 to 35 feet for the first 2 hours then we started nailing them in 15 FEET of water if you can believe that.

Great post and way to go! Days like this one just make all the work worth it don't they?

Thanks for the pictures. They are the highlight of any post. I can almost taste your perch now. [sly]

I think we were fishing right next to you. We saw you guys getting into them and also tried moving shallower. But we made sure not to crowd you guys....it was hard listening to the whoops of success when we were doing so poorly Sad. Glad you guys got on an active pod of fish. It was my worst day at Yuba on the ice. I only iced one perch (I let the 5 year old reel it in thankfully). We ended with about a half dozen. If I go to Yuba again, it'll be a blitzkrieg trip over to where pikeman has been hitting.

Sorry about the slow day you guys should have came over closer to us. I dont mind at all, I like to see every body catch fish. Were you guys to the north of us? Did you come over and talk to me?

Ya we ate the perch as soon as we got home. Tryed something new with them, beer batter and deep fried. It was great. This has been my best year ice fishing. I absolutely love it. FOUR TRIPS AND FOUR LIMITS! You cant beet that. The fish gods are smiling down on me. ha ha[Image: happy.gif]

Yeah, that was us just north of you guys. Craig came over and talked to you. I just don't like crowding others, especially since the water wasn't too deep there. I try to give people their space no matter how much it hurts! I even tried as shallow as 6 feet up in those bushes. Had a few bites there, but those dumb fish wouldn't hang on! [sly] Time to get out the XC skis maybe for my next trip to the lake! Those guys with me seen my pics from earlier trips to Yuba this year. I was bummed not to get them on the fish this time. Oh well...the fishin was good but the catchin coulda been a lot better! NEXT TIME! [crazy]

Ha Ha it was probably the biggest fish in the lake if you ask him. lol. He called me today just to talk about what it might have been. He still thinks it was a monster pike. I think it was a big catfish but we will never know. Isnt that why we love fishing, ya never know whats going to happen.
