Hi all. The Utah Lake Fish Forum has identified several parcels of State land around Utah Lake that can and hopefully will be used as fisherman and recreational access points. These parcels would require some signage, trails, and improvements but are already owned by the public. In a perfect world, we could probably improve all of them, but obviously, money is tight and priorities need to be made.
I know many on here are Utah lake regulars, and I would like to have your input as to what areas you would MOST like to see improved angler access placed. I'll try the poll format, but please comment as well as vote.
Our next meeting is on March 4th from 6-8 PM at the Springville DWR office conference room. (1115 N. Main Springville)
The public is invited.

We all have are favorite places to fish at utah lake, but having easy access? They probably wouldn't be a favorite spot! I think me as an angler of utah lake and surrounding waters, the real problem is the trash thats left behind! How can we prevent so much trash before we loose access completly ?[frown]

[cool][#0000ff]My vote is to get the point around Lincoln Beach reopened to angler access. Some of the best multi species fishing on Utah Lake and you can only get to it from open water. Okay for boaters and tubers but a lot of others like to fish it too.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The trash monster is probably a big part of what closed it and has kept it closed. Got to be real ugly down there. Still is where access is still available.[/#0000ff]

Thats my point excactly ! I like the north my self , I drive one of those gas guzzlers so i dont get that way often . i would hate for the public access behind the pumps to be lost because of the trash ! But something other than us bftrs or nice people picking up after people needs to be done! More enforcment i guess .

Ya wanna hit my hot button just say trash. I've hauled so much trash from areas that I fish I think you could load a couple semis. When I was younger I used to call clowns out that were leaving trash. Got a lot of it cleaned up that way but also got all lumpy on my head a time or two. Now when I see TRASH leaving trash I just usually beat feet to their mess & try to clean it up with them watching me. Amazing how shame will wake some up & others are just too damn STUPID to notice.

Just a thought about the trash. I am sure there is some kind of law about littering. What if wildlife officers were to watch areas and give tickets like when they watch areas to check licenses. If enough tickets were given, the word would get out , And maybe the people leaving trash would think about not trashing like we think about not forgeting our licenses. You would hope anyway.

According to the head man at State lands that talked to us last time, If we can get this access point at the "L" going, we will have LEGAL shoreline access all the way to at least third spring. The reason is that up to a certain elevation (settled in court), the state owns the shoreline up to that level. This level is marked out there by white pipes.
Trash is indeed one of the biggest problems we face with this project at any of the possible sites. Trash collection will be something that will need to be looked at as this progresses. If we could only post these areas "slobs keep out![:/]"
Thanks all for the input so far. Keep it coming.

This summer I was fishing with a Saratoga Springs officer and we were checked by a DNR officer. We were talking about all the trash right where we were fishing and I asked what if anything they could do about it. Both said the biggest problem is that it isn't littering until it is actually left. So ticketing it is hard because people either wait out the officer or take it with them because they saw the officer.

I'd love to see some more access around lindon harbor, even just a small beach for an access point. There might already be one that I'm not aware of, though.
As far as litter goes, how can people be so disgusting? I don't get the laziness that is happening out there. I have picked up far to many disposable diapers and other truly nasty things and thrown them out when i leave than I care to remember, and I don't have kids. What can be done other than maybe placing a few well placed signs in the nastiest areas to "clean up the trash" that keeps dumping in these spots? and then if that doesn't work, we start avoiding the worst areas and plant a few "weapons of trash destruction" out there, and once everyone that litters is blown up, we can have a BFT cleanup day!

If you go to the State Lands site, there is a map with all 32 access points listed and shown on a map of Utah Lake. As to the desire to have more access around Lindon Harbor, there is a new path, beach, and dayuse sites just south of the harbor, starting around the Bubbleup gate. The beach is overgrown, but if someone goes in and works it over, it can be renewed. Check out the State Lands link on the State Web site. Lincoln Beach just needs some signage to outline the access and parking area.

Thanks for reminding me of the link, Matt. I forgot about that being viewable. One additional thing I would mention is that some of these spots can offer only foot access, but some may even possibly allow things like a small boat ramp. I didn't want to skew the results any by being too particular of any one site or area.
Another thing I would mention is that some of these projects may possibly be expedited by some volunteer work. It could offer a chance for fishing and conservation groups, boy scouts and others to render some meaningful public service. More details to follow.

so if there is state access, but an overgrown beach, can average everyday fishermen like myself remove the weeds? I don't want to go into an area and start cleaning it up to make it usable if I am going to get in trouble for it. I would love to volunteer my time doing things like this, but again, don't want to get busted for some random law or something
