Huge Florida Bass
#1
It's interesting to note that Florida created its own Big Catch Program in 1990 and, last year, certificates issued paralleled those of BASS's Lunker Club awards with Lake Walk-In-Water, Stick Marsh/Farm 13 and Lake Istokpoga nailing down the top-3 spots. The program is now sponsored by eAngler.com and recognizes bass that are caught legally in Florida and weigh more than eight pounds or are longer than 24 inches. Of 426 Big Catch certificates for bass issued in 1999, 134 were recorded at Walk-In-Water, 24 from Stick Marsh/Farm 13, and 23 from Lake Istokpoga, according to Jim Estes of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

In January 2000, John Balint of South Bend, Indiana, picked off a 14-pound, 8-ounce largemouth in Lake Kissimmee, while [#ff0000]Steve von Brandt of Wilmington, Delaware, collected a pair of trophy bass from Lake Jackson on successive days that scaled 10.4 and 12.4 pounds, and all three of these released-alive prizes were captured between 10 a.m. and noon.

Since it has now been doubly confirmed that Florida has regained its Big Bass Capital of the World crown, it doesn't take a genius to conclude that the Sunshine State is the place to be for folks seeking that 10-pound or above wall-hanger.

I'm gonna be happy if I catch one more than a pound. So far all I've caught are little half pounders. My biggest has been 15oz. Just short. Gah!

Huge Florida Bass from California. The real capitol of huge Bass, over 15 pounds. Florida has tons of ten pound fish, the real big gals are here. 88 over ten for me in the last five years and 6 over 15 with a top fish of 18.4. Looking forward to Now. Spring has sprung so get ready for another monster fish.

no denying california has slightly bigger fish.

but what good are the fish if you can even afford to go after them b/c the cost of living is astronomical...?

plus FL has sunshine, citrus, beaches, and babes too.
the gators and cottonmouths are the only downside i can think of.

You forgot mosquitoes [Wink]. Cali has some big fish but you can't beat bass fishing in Florida. You can be fishing a river or a canal and not see anybody else all day long.

oh yeah. mosquitoes, and leeches and screw worms...er.

anyways its at least more affordable im sure. plus the fish here willingly hit zoom lizards and crankbaits all day long.Smile no 30.00 swim baits and access is good since most people will let you fish/ are accustomed to seeing fisherman.

I dont think id fair well fishing in cali. all the clear water, access problems, pressured fish. give me stained water and submerged stump rows any old day Wink

We have stupid Bats out hereWhen night fishing they fly into your line and then jump off. Feels just like a bite. Until you know the difference between a Bat "Bite" and a fish bite you will be swinging all night at "Bat fish".

Hey Bendopolo.

I hate the bats too but at least they stay away from your head. There is nothing worse than fishing in Florida and getting hit by a flying Palmetto bug. I had to start wearing a hockey helmet with mask there after taking one to the bridge of my nose one time. lol

I do like the Cali Bass though.

My ex-wife got hit with a Palmetto bug. It was like jumpimg on a ride. I finally squished it and pulled the unholy glob of Palmetto Gel out of her hair and then I got in trouble. She finally ran into the house screaming. I'm glad to not be married now.

I'm definitely with you on the stained water and stump - and of course Cali and it's iron gate restrictions. I also belong to San Jose Bass and those poor guys reckon it gets worse every year ...
