Ogden Action 3-20
#1
Got done with my training early today so I hit the Ogden by the parkway. The river is up and slightly off color but fishable. I started off with a tandem rig of BHPT and Hare's ear with no luck. The water was stained and I think I was pushing the flies past them. So I snipped off the hare's ear and put on a red San Juan. Bingo, started nailing the fish. Caught two browns (very health bright red spots) 14 and 12 inches around 1.30. Nothing until 2:00 after that, but I noticed the BWO were coming off and there was some top water action. So I snipped off the nymphs, tied on a size 16 parachute Adams and for the next 1.5 hours proceeded to catch 10 more browns ranging in size from 6 inches to 16 inches all on top close to the bank. I missed a very nice one that might, MIGHT, have pushed 18. He hit and faught for a few seconds, rolled showed me his belly and got off. Oh well. Out caught all the bait and hardware chuckers today. I had to leave, but the fish were still rising when I left. Nice to see the river still has some good action and the first time in a long while I was able to get some good top water action.

Good report. I was out yesterday. The bwo where out in full force every where you looked there were raising. I was using a rapala. I am still learning to fly fish. I caught 7 in 2 hours ranging from 12 to 17 inches had a very good size roll on me but missed. I didn't see any fly fishers. I wish i would have brought my fly rod. I just need a little bet of training from some one. One o these days. Pineviewfisher

If you are going to learn fly fishing, I would not suggest the Ogden. This is tight quarters fishing that would frustrate you as the trees eat your flies. I would suggest hitting the weber were it is more open until you get casting down, and the whitefish are willing to bite most of the time.

Flygoddess, I am no hero, just a fat guy who likes to fish.

I am pretty good at casting. i got that down. It is choosing the right fly and setting the hook. Is my problem. I never fly fished the weber. I have been teaching my self on the ogden. I catch them every once in awhile. I got my side to side casting down very good from what other flyfishermen tell me. I might go today. Pineviewfisher
