I am looking for a book on either trout or steelhead, As i have said on other posts i am new to fly tying and the few that i have learned i think i have them down pretty good and would like to learn a few others. I want somethign with fairly simple flys maybe 4 steps i dont think i can handle anything more difficult. I also dont realy want to spend a whole lot. 10 -17 $. I thought i would get your guys imput on one rather than go out and buy the first one that i see. If you guys even have a old one you would be willing to sell. Thanks guys, or even gals.

Try and find a used copy of Joe Bates' Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing. It's long out of print, but there are copies floating around.
Why this one? The same tying techniques used for streamers are used for tying steelhead flies. In fact, Bates has a number of steelhead patterns included.
I've said it before, and will, no doubt, say it again. Patterns, per se, are irrelevent. If you learn the basic tying techniques you can then tie any pattern there is.

Although originating in the Great Lakes, they work exceptionally well in the Northwest as well; particularly in high water. Note that, while I do provide some patterns, the Soo Flies are more a tying style, and you can adapt many standard patterns to it. One example would be the Golden Chappie, a design of my own based on the old Northwestern pattern called the Chappie, which dates back at least to the 1930s.

I would think if you are TRULY wanting to learn, you wouldn't set a price tag on a quality book at $17. There's nothing wrong with being on the frugal side but trying to cut a penny on every last thing is going to bite ya in the arse in the long run..... just my .02
Classes, DVDs, and quality books are definitely worth the investment in the long run.

There is so much information on the web that you could even fore go the books.
A quick start would be to take free tying lessons at one of the big box stores or watch some demonstrations.
There are a number of great step by step websites to look at.
Utube has lots of video on how to tie flies as a number of fly fishing websites do also.
It does take some time ferreting out some of those sites but some of the people here probably could help point you to some resources.
If you are an experienced fly fisherman then you probably have the germination of an idea of some flies that you think are some that you want to try.
Keeping to a low budget and limited materials means one skill you will have fun developing is that of creative material substitutions.

three online sites I can think of off the top of my head hook.tv midcurrent.com and charliesflyboxinc.com.....all sites are free to join.. hook.tv and charlies have great video libraries..

I remember reading somewhere not too long ago that one of the the companies was not going to publish them any more but you could get a subscription to access it on the internet.

thanks for everyones great info, very helpful as usual.
But I hate when someone gets on and bashes your post or tells you if your not going to spend more that you suck basicly. I appreciate anyone that is willing to help but if you dont think i am spending enough or not what you would spend plz. just keep it to your self it does no one any good. as for your concern :-).. everyone is entitled to an opinion and some are more direct than others when stating that opinion.. but it seems you have taken it with a grain of salt to to speak and that is probably the best thing to do..
please don hesitate to ask any other questions that may come to mind or is of concern to you..
be sure and check out those sites I posted.. they are all a great source of information in general and in particular the fly libraries are awesome..

You are right about the availability of all kinds of info on the Internet Scruffy_Fly. A few years ago after remodeling my office/ fly tying sanctuary I realized that my book on entomology must have been eaten by the bugs. So instead of buying another one I searched Utube for a video and then downloaded it for reference. BTW do they sell encyclopedias any more? lol
