Birthday trip (Willard)
#1
[#0000bf]I've been reading reports from the last few days. So far, this is what seems to be working...
[/#0000bf]

[#0000bf]Time: Afternoon & evening (between 3 - 9 P.M.)
[/#0000bf]

[#0000bf]Area: North Marina (some people got fish in Freeway Bay, but I gotta stick to shore)
[/#0000bf]

[#0000bf]Lures: Crappie are going after bright/hot colors...would hot pink or neon green work? I don't have orange jigs (yet)[/#0000bf]
[#0000bf][/#0000bf]
[#0000bf]Anybody wanna add or clear up any info?
I really don't wanna get skunked again, 'specially on my birthday! Heck, as long as it's not a shad, I'll take anything![/#0000bf]

[#0000bf][/#0000bf]
[#0000bf]Anybody wanna come with me? I guess I'll get there about 2 P.M. or so... gotta leave by 6 for the whole "family party" thing.[/#0000bf]

HAPPY B DAY I would come shore fish but I am out of town[Sad] Hope you have good luck anyways. I would take plenty bug spray, last time I was out there I lasted for about 30 min and was eaten alive by skeeters just a heads up.

Happy Birthday to You!

I might make it, I'm in the middle of replacing the entire brake line system on my truck and I should have about all I can stand by then. I'll be in a Black Benz.

Will you be where TD parked you last week? That's where I'll look first.

[#000080]Yup. I figure I'll try the NE corner of the North Marina for a couple hours, then maybe move norther (yes, that's a word! LOL) between the launch ramp and docks... I got a few bites there before in the evenings, so I guess it's a good spot for sunset time.[/#000080]
[#000080][/#000080]
[#000080]And my dad wants me home by 6, so I guess I'm leaving at 5:30. Still be there by 2 ...in fact, I should go buy bug spray right now. And sunblock LOL[/#000080]
[#000080]It's supposed to be 90+F today![/#000080]

Stop at Wal-Mart and pick up a bag or 2 of small white maribou jigs.
I think that they are 1/32 oz. or even 1/16 oz will do.
Get all white, not pink heads.
The jigs are about $2.00 for 10 jigs.
These are picking up crappie and an occasional Wiper inside the North Marina.
I will be there by 3:00pm in my yellow tri-hull boat.

[#000080]How ironic...I'm getting money for my birthday to go buy fishing stuff (was going to get the stuff itself, but both my dad and sister figure they don't want to get me the wrong thing, so I'll just go chose the items myself)[/#000080]
[#000080][/#000080]
[#000080]I have white tube jigs with those tassle-like tails, that Tube Dude gave me. And ones that look like fish with long curly tails... but they have anise scent on them - which I hate, but I guess fish love it.[/#000080]
[#000080][/#000080]
[#000080]I go now![/#000080]
[#000080]Report either when I get back, or later tonight after all the hubub.[/#000080]

[#000080]So, there's been a ritual/routine started at my house. I come inside, my dad says "Did you get any fish?" and I say "Of course not!"[/#000080]
[#000080][/#000080]
[#000080]I'm starting to think that Willard Bay hates me. And by "the bay", I mean just about every aspect! The fish won't commit suicide for me. The critters won't sit still for a photograph...[/#000080]
[#000080]There was a beautiful garter (I think that's what Troll said it was) snake, that was swimmin' along the bank. Of course, by the time I would've had my camera turned on and aimed and all that, it would'a been long gone anyway. Feh![/#000080]
[#000080][/#000080]
[#000080]There were probably a dozen carp, right on the edge of the bank! All swimmin' around, in pairs or trios. And of course, as my luck is, soon as I was all set up and ready, they went somewhere else. I think there was one nibble on my bait (had a worm and catfish "blood" power bait...figured I'd use both at once, for good measure!), but that was it. Troll said they were too busy with "other" things, to think about eating. Stupid carp![/#000080]
[#000080][/#000080]
[#000080]As for anything else, nada too! I tried a jig that looked just like a perch. Tried a blue and white sparkly one. Troll tried a white Motito...or something like that? Tried other stuff too, and he only got 2 bites in the 3 hours we were there.[/#000080]
[#000080]He went to try some other spot further north, about 20 minutes before I left. When he came back, he said "It smells awfully skunky over here!" LOL[/#000080]
[#000080][/#000080]
[#000080]Oh well, maybe I can get something tomorrow. I might go earlier, since the carp seemed to slow down after about 2. I'll get there maybe 11 or 12... if my heart behaves. S'why I didn't go in the morning like I planned... had heart flutters, so I just slept in![/#000080]

Your not alone, i think most people that fish Willard
have a love / Hate relation with it, i know i do[mad]. It makes any fishermen or women question their angling skills, i know that i have been to the point of throwing my tackle box and poles into the water and taking up Golf, but then again i probably would be wrapping my golf clubs around the nearest tree. Willard is one of those lakes that few figure out consistantly. I have days where i eat bugs all day and fry in the sun, not catching a thing, trolling the entire lake, other days i can't keep them off the hook.
I guess it's those days that keep suckering me back.lol
Hang in there, and if i see your tackle box floating on Willard i will know you decided to take up Golf.

White maribou, white maribou.

Motito is a rum drink, I think.

Sorry, you scratched out today, but happy birthday, regardless.

I get skunked at Willard a lot, too. Just over a week back, I was standing in a line of guys all lined up on the beach along the SE side of the marina, cansting the same chartreuse jig at the same depth as everybody and EVERYBODY but me caught at least a couple.

You'll get em, kiddo!

[#000080]Yeah, that thing[/#000080]
[#000080][/#000080]
[#000080]I'm going to Wal-Mart to spend some of my birthday money. I gotta get a couple new 'shelf' things for my tackle box...the ones I have now are sooo hard for little ol'e me to get open [frown] I'm such a wimp![/#000080]
[#000080]Then tomorrow I guess I'll go see if Sportsman's has anything decent, on my way back to Willard[/#000080]
[#000080][/#000080]
[#000080]I gots $51 to 'waste' on fishing stuff![/#000080]
[#000080]($31 from my dad...I always get a dollar for each year of age, and $20 from my sister)[/#000080]

The worst days are the ones I head up there, fish for hours, and catch one little crappie, just enough to keep hope alive.....

We started fishing inside the Marina today at about 2:30pm.
We didn't get a bite in over 1/2 hour, so we motored out and over to the South East side. We found some active Crappie, a Catfish and a nice 21" Walleye there.
When the fishing died there at about 5:30pm, we went back inside the Marina and never got a bite till we left at about 6:30pm.
Ended the day with 8 Crappie, 1 Walleye and 1 Catfish.
Not very fast but a good meal none the less.
