hey guys! got some family members coming from vegas and would like to go fishing friday. they go to lake mead alot so they're used to catching striper, chanel, largemouth and so on ( lucky them) but they never went trout fishing .acually they never caught any trout. I know they"ll be alot of pressure on lakes this holiday weekend but if u guys can tell me a place where we can go catch some decent trout it would be greatly appreciated. And by the way we are one of the unfortunate ones who don"t have a boat so we"ll be on shore.

If I was to go fishing just for trout this weekend I would consider the mirror lake highway. Lots of lakes on the road, as well as some within 10-15 minutes of walking to get away from people. If your friends from Vegas don't get up here much, the scenery will be rewarding in itself. The trout (mostly Brookies) are very colorful and easy to catch with most any fly or spinner. If you want to take a chance on not catching alot, but bigger fish, go to Strawberry. There are good access points at Chicken Creek West, Haws Point, and Renegade bay. You might catch more and smaller trout on the Soldier Creek side at the dam. Rockport might peak my interest also. Good luck!

I am taking my family hiking/fishing this week, and I have been looking for a lake just a bit off the beaten path, say up to an hour hike from the mirror lake highway. Can you suggest which lakes might fit this bill and allow us to catch a few pretty brookies?
