I set out to fish the Bubble Up for some catfish, and maybe some other fish too, this morning. I arrived at Lindon Boat Harbor at 5:30AM and launchd by 6:00AM. On my out to the BU I caught an eight inch white bass which I cut up to use for bait.
Fishing using the white bass meat wasn't bad. Between 6:30AM and 8:30AM I caught 5 channel cats, 1 bullhead cat, and 2 white bass. One of the bass was caught on a 1.5" green jig and the fish was NO longer than 2.5"! He made great bait. I also had three other kitties bite and not get the hook and two missed other fish on a spinner.
Channel's went 16", 17", 19", and two 20"+ which went 4lbs 12oz and 7lbs 6oz. It's hard to handle a big catfish in a pontoon boat by yourself to get an accurate measurement or a picture for that matter!?
About 8:30AM when the catfish slowed down, I decided to troll down the pipe and maybe find some white bass to catch. I trolled by the fourth buoy out from shore and had a fish on. So I parked by the second buoy (which isn't raeally a buoy anymore it's just a stump...) and proceeded to cast for the next hour.
I didn't make a cast without catching a fish. Yeah, that's about 60-70 casts with a fish on every cast. I quit counting after 30 so my estimate is 60-70. There were schools of whites all over the north side of the pipeline from the first buoy to the fourth buoy. I finally got tired of catching them and went home. This ties for the craziest day of catching ever on the water for me. Getting up early was worth it.
I have to thank Beggin4Bass and FishHound for letting me bog them down a few weeks ago when they took me along showed me the finer points of catfishing. Without their expertise in the field I would have been stuck with whites all day...
Pictures are:
1.A white bass that struck and missed but I didn't miss.
2. 7lber
3. 4lber
4.Pair of smaller cats to eat
