Green & Jordan River Cats
#1
Just wanted to post on some good Cattin action I had experienced over the summer at a couple of Utah's Rivers, The Green and the Jordan. I had never really fished the Jordan for Cats much but found out there are some great fish there. I fished there once in July and once in August. Both times I caught quite a few Cats and several large fish. the pictures are of an eight pound fish and a five pound fish. both were caught on cut bait. I like to use a slip rig with a piece of cut sucker or chub that you can buy at sportsman's warehouse or cabelas. both sucker and chub work great, although this particular time I caught these fish on a cut section of a red sided shiner or a whole red sided shiner. The Green River pictures are of a couple seven pound class fish I caught this summer. There were some removal efforts to try and manage the Catfish in the Green River a few years back that seemed to reduce the number of larger sized fish, but it seems they are starting to make a comeback. There is some great fishing here again. For these fish I used a slip rig with large pieces of cut sucker or chub. Just wanted to get the word out that there is some good Cattin to be had in Utah. lets preserve these great fish.

Nice cats. I had good luck for cats at Willard this year. Will have to give the Jordan River a try, its the closest place to me, and I've been ignoring it. Mind sharing what part of Jordan you were fishing at? Water flow looked good there.

Thanks

Great job on the kittys this year way to go!!!!!!!!!!
I used to do really good on the kittys out by the airport be for the closed it off to fishing, I know there are a lot off good places south of the city , I have fished the green a few times and never done very good so it is good to see you got in to them on the green!!!!!!!!!!
Way to go.

Yeah the green can be tricky sometimes. what I have found is there is a huge population of smaller fish. the way I have been successful is using a large piece of cut bait that stays on the hook really well and is too big for the smaller fish to eat. then I just wait out the nibbles until a big fish scoops it up and runs. its harder to see the good holes too but if you find a good hole with a riffle leading into it you can do well. They did a lot of electro shocking a while ago and killed some of the larger fish, but that stopped a while ago I think

I have heard about the Cats in Willard i'll have to give it a try sometime. Im not exactly sure what stretch it is. Im from green river so I just gave it a shot while i was up there I think it was near Riverton though. I just took exit 2300 So. if I remember right. after you turn left off the exit there is a park on the right with a walking trail that runs along the river in some places. There were a few good holes i tried fishing with riffles running into them. i fished the head of the hole first and then the core of the hole. worked pretty well.
