fly fishing today again =)
#1
Weather was nice today so I went fly fishing to my
secret spot at the Santa Ynez River.
Got there about 8:30 AM. It was about 38F. A little cold
for a wimp like me but it got warmer fast. About 70F
around noon.
I hiked to my secret pool with my 5wt and giant hopper.
That hopper works good over there. First cast BUM
something nailed it hard. Ok, thats not a green sunfish
for sure. Full bend in my rod. Big jump. Oh YEAH !
Nice smallmouth! Nice fight for about 4 minutes.
The funny thing is that I think its the same one I caught
in that pool like a two weeks ago.[crazy]
Caught couple more nice smaller bass and few greens.
Its just so nice up there and nobody there.
Called it a day about 5:15 and started hiking back to
my car.
Also I did try out my new backpack/vest. That thing
is awesome. I love it.

Never been to that body of water. I would imagine that there are some trout waiting for a nice fly to come by, for I hear that the DFG stock the river once the temps start cooling down.[/size][/#008000][/font]

Yes they stock it with trout in winter. But there is a lot of fish all the time if you know where to look. SM bass,
LM bass, green sunfish, huge carp, catfish?
I know that you like to fish for trout only for the most part.
Try bass on da fly. I promise its fun.[Wink]

Very nice! We still have the white stuff on the ground here and wind chill today with beautiful Blue Skys.

Love seeing the bass.

Speaking of back packs, I found mine at the other house, washed it all up and I am going to start using it again.

It is such a cool backpack with tons of pockets and a Hydration pack.

Thanks for mentioning them in the past...made me decide to dig mine out.

The sling is still my choice, but as you mentioned...this is the time of year...LAYERS. And I have no place to put a jacket with the sling.

Yeah, the back pack worked great to put away those
extra layers as it warmed up. Also couple of bottles
of water and lunch[Smile]
