Hb141 passed.
#1
Just to let you guys know that HB141, which will effectively overturn the Utah Supreme court Conatser decision, passed the Senate today by a 19-10 vote. A veto by the Governor is unlikely. As promised by our side from the outset, there will be a court challenge in due time.

In spite of the outcome, thanks to any that did help with the effort to stop this misguided legislation.

Great now the state will be spending money on fighting lawsuits because they seized or rights. Also looks like they are trying to succeed from the Union with all the other BS they are proposing about seizing federal lands. Like that won't also be a waste of our money in legal fees if any of that passes. Yet at the same times many of these ranching families have severely damage fishing and hunting on public lands (where they argue we have plenty of opportunities) with their subsidized grazing. If Clinton could reform other chronic welfare why have these families been on the taxpayer's dime for generations.

Correct. and our State has a nice budget surplus (not) to waste on all of this litigation. [mad][:/] Heaven knows we tried to get this message through. .

Now I can go back to fishing that one spot on the Provo with 10,000 other Utah anglers! This just continues to prove how out of touch our senators and legislators are with the people of Utah. Maybe we should send them back to the 12th grade with the 200 students per class to learn some common sense. Oh wait, they're going to get rid of it. I give up, there's no hope.

So there better be a mass contact of the Governor to try to get him to veto this silly bill.

As long as there are no real ethics rules for Utah's legislature, you'll continue to see these types of bills become law.

It's time to sign the petition to FORCE each of these legislators to divulge their benefactors and perks. I have no doubt that there was some serious greening of some legislators' pocketbooks to get this to pass.

THROW 'EM ALL OUT!

my representatives were split on this bill. Karen Mayne voted against it so I sent he an email thanking her for her support, and assuring her she can count on continued support from me.
Erick Hutchings voted for this bill, so I sent him an email to advise him that not only will I not vote for him,but I will donate
money and my time to whoever runs against him.

This is definately not good. Gotta wonder who was paying who up on the hill. Hopefully it will get overturned by the courts if not vetoed by the Gov.

I wrote to my Senators in advance of their vote. Both voted for the bill. I have since written them both and expressed disappointment in their vote and pledging support to their opposition in future elections. I will also contact the Govenors office this morning to ask that he veto this bill.

I believe it is a brother-in-law.

All, it is also important to positively take care or those legislators that voted FOR us as well. These legislators deserve your support, and it is not a party thing either. The "D"'s were good for us in the Senate but several Dems in the House basically stabbed us in the back on HB80 and some "R's" acted very courageously in our behalf, including the sponsor of Hb80. In both writing and actually getting up there and talking with these guys at the Capitol, it wasn't hard to tell who deserves our support and who doesn't. Do your homework and bring it this November, come election time.

The fear I have on this issue is that there is some outrage now, but, as is usually the case with anglers, all of that will dissipate by election time and most of you won't give a crap then and either not vote or just vote "like I always have".

I for one feel very fortunate that both my House and Senate rep. voted for HB80 and against HB141. I have volunteered to work on their campaigns this fall and I am happy that most of my energy will be in a positive manner.
I will however counter balance this with forays into McKiffs district to campaign against him and for his opponent.

Yesterday while at the capitol a legislator made a comment to me that it was nice to see "all the fishers have become political". I certainly hope this is the case, but will be very satisfied if even "some" remain that way.
