Big Wood Report
#1
Boy did the planets line up correctly for another epic day on the Big Wood yesterday. Everything was perfect - it was the warmest day of the week, there was a little cloud cover and a nice breeze to get the midges going. Sure enough, they started flying around at about 11am and......nothing. I walked four miles down the river and fished for six hours and NEVER saw a fish feeding. Not one. It is usually fantastic dry fly fishing this time of year. I hooked and lost one nice rainbow and landed a 14" brown foul hooked on the tail. I talked to a few other guys and they weren't catching anything either. To make matter worse, I forgot my cheater glasses and watching me trying to tie on a size 22 midge emerger was like watching Grandpa trying to gum an apple. A front moved in last night so maybe the dropping barometer had something to do with it?

I have never tried it, but I have heard that this is the time to be on the Big Wood. It is beautiful country anyway.
