Casade & Horsethief report
#1
The perch fishing was slow at Cascade but the 10"-15" smallmouths were hitting gulp minnows in relatively shallow water. Horsethief was a little crowded around the dam. I caught six typical stockers on a Stayner Ducktail on a #3 sinking line from the tube. Nothing spectacular or worthy of photos but at least it's a fishing report.

Thanks for the report. I've been thinking about heading up there in the next couple of weeks.

We were up there between the 24th of June thru the 4th and managed to catch quite a few bass and perch. The key was jerkbaits on points from 5:30 AM to 7:00 AM, after that it really slowed down but my wife and I was still able to catch a few on bitsy jigs in black and blue with a twin tail trailer and watermelon seed flukes. The biggest bass was just under 3 lbs with a number of them at 2+ lbs. The perch were 12" to 13" and fat. I think the wind and thunder storms slowed things way down. Luckily none of our trees came down. There were 4 trees that came down across Crownpoint Parkway between Cascade and our place. My SIL in Donnelly had one come down and just missed her house by 30 feet. Definitely scary.

Went to Cascade this weekend to help my SIL unload the Uhaul, after they got back from AZ, into her new home. I didn't fish but talked to a few fisherman up there.

Trout fishing has picked up for trollers and the rivers are finally clearing up for fly fishing.

Bass fishing is finally taking off with the warmer water. Perch are hard to find, they seem to be moving around but if you get into a school of them, you pick up some good ones.

I'm headed out Wed to Phillips Res out of Baker City for some smallie fishing for a few days.

Everyone needs to leave the perch alone. I am going after the state record ice fishing this winner.[laugh]

Good luck. I hear the new (un-recorded/un-official) record is 16.5 inches and over 3 lbs. Can't wait to see that one show up on F&G lists. It will be very hard to break.

This is good news for us that like to fish but also the local economy. They needed it!! I'm hearing multiple reports of 15"+ perch being caught so 16-17" would not surprise me. Sure like to see a picture of that one. Windriver - I think you will have a lot of company on the ice this year looking for that big one. See ya there! [Smile][Smile]

I'm going up to Cascade this weekend for a church fucntion. I'm taking a float tube & my fly rod and am gonna try to sneak in a little fishing![Wink]

Anybody tried flyfishing in Cascade Res recently? Any trout being caught?

Think I would be better off just catching some planters at Horsethief?

I put out several reports in a thread that died a couple weeks ago. Scroll down further in the list, you'll find it. I don't know of anything newer, sorry. You could check with Tackle Tom's. He'll has the most current info.

I used to enjoy fishing south of the golf course, but when I was up there a couple of months ago my favorite spot was closed due to some construction. A couple of years ago they did the same thing to my old favorite spot south of the dam.

I've had moderate luck at Sugar Loaf. I haven't fished much on the west side, but I'll probably give it a shot next time.

Well I fished a few hours Sat. in my float tube & fly rod right near the golf course & did'nt do very well. Caught a small perch and that was it.

The next day I tryed Brundage Res for a while & caught zilch.

Looks like I should have just brought a spinning rod & fished below the Cascade dam in the river near the bridge. People were cathing quite a few. The church family camp I was at in the RV park right there........................

Sorry to hear you didn't do well. Cascade has always been finicky for me. It's either really good, or really bad.
