Huntington info ?
#1
A buddy and I are thinking of spending a few nights at Huntington soon. Can we park a camper up there close to the lake ? I've only been there to ice fish so not quite sure what to expect as far as campsites go.Will I have any issues launching a 16 1/2 foot Trihull on the ramp there ? One more thing....is the fishin any good in the creek below the dam ? Thanks in advance for any info !

as far as camping there were folks tenting it on the lake shore. the only place i saw that you could take a camper was at the very end of the lake (not the dam side, the other end). as far as your boat i wouldent see how it could be a problem, its an actual ramp there, not a dirt or pebble ramp but a concrete ramp. not a ton of room in the parking lot to manuver but im sure you should be ok.

Thanks for the info. I read your post. We're you draggin a streamer / leech pattern with your flyrod in your tube ? My buddy has a cabover camper so I'm thinkin we should be able to find a decent spot on the end of the lake you mentioned.

Good Morning,
The boat may be a problem, if the motor is bigger than a 10 horse. You may want to read the proclamation, regarding Huntington Res. The Lake is restricted to 10 horse and smaller. There is one or two spots with shade. West end is a couple more just not all that close to the lake. Good Luck.

Maybe Fuzz will chime in here, he's from that neck of the woods and usually know whats what at huntington but he may be at Powell roasting.
I beleive this is year # two as far as the motor size restriction at Huntington. Last year we were able to use our larger boats as long as we disconnected the feul line to the big engine and used our tillers only.

There is a ton of camping on the skyline on the way to Millers flat. The turn off is in between Cleveland and Huntington, it's with in a mile or so of the lake. And as previously noted there is in fact a horsepower restriction of 10 hp on the lake.

there is no place right next to the lake that you can camp.with a camper or traler.. but there are a lot of places around the lake not to far a way form the lake where you can camp for free.. the motor restriction is that you just can't use a motor bigger then 10 ph, but i have had my big boat on the lake lot's of times with a 140 hp motor on it.. i just dont start it up and use the kicker motor thats 7.5 hp.. i have talked to the wardens there and they say it's fine to have the big motor on the boat ya just can't use it.. so as long as you have a kicker motor that is under 10 hp your good to go..

trolling has been kicking butt up there the last while.. white with black spots and rainbow zipfish have been the best thing i have found but a lot of guy's are hitting them on popgear and worm too (yuck i hate that stuff lol)

yeah no boats on duck Fork and it's fly and lure only.. there are bigger tigers in huntington then duck fork. and a lot easyer to catch too..

The river has went down a lot since I fished it. There are some massive 5lb Cutthroat in it more towards Cleveland Reservoir, but make sure you let them go. (regulations)

Just thought I'd chime in on my Huntington experience as well.

I've been sinking a worm but inflating it with air to float it a couple feet off the bottom. I got one every cast on the West side near the dam.

You actually can launch boats on Duck Fork and I don't know of a horse power restriction on the Fork (we've launched and used a 50 horse out there before). The one down side is that it's a fairly bumpy dirt road ('bout and hour on dirt to get to the lake) with a dirt boat ramp, I wouldn't not suggest pulling a big boat out there. I have pulled multiple tigers over 20 inches out of Duck Fork, but I have heard of some monsters caught out of Huntington.
