advice, please
#1
Hey, I'm a long-time lurker, but this is my first post.

I've been researching kayak fishing for quite a while, and think I've finally decided on the Perception Caster 12.5 (from the gander mountain web site). The reviews seem good, but if anyone has any experience with this or any Perception kayaks, I'd appreciate it.

Also, I've got a few days off next week, and was thinking about heading up to Comins Lake to try to catch my first Pike. Does anyone know any spots to camp up there, or what spots to fish from? I've never caught a Pike but would love to add it to the list of species caught.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Aidan

[cool]Hey AidanInSpace, Welcome to the board. Comins lake is pretty barren these days. The NDOW no longer stocks it with trout because of the pike and those pike that are left are few and far between. You would need a boat to fish it effectively. There is no camping at Comins but there is at Cave lake about 14 miles away. Cave lake would be better to fish as there are nice rainbow and brown trout there.

Ahh bummer about Comins. I guess my attempt at Pike will have to wait.

Thanks for the info, I look forward to becoming a more active member of the board.

I was just up there a couple weeks ago and I covered a good portion of the lake with my float tube, I called it a day when the wind picked up. I did not catch any pike but there were several recently dead pike that were left near the boat launching area. They were all about 2 feet long.

i purchased my perception caster 12.5 @ DICKs sporting goods. $599 i paid for it. Pretty good for the price. Got everything you'll need. If you have the money tho, I'd recommend getting the ocean kayak trident 11. The perception is a bit on the heavy side.
