Henrys Hardwater Thanksgiving Report
#1
Today started off with a very long walk. I could not find a public access to Staley Springs that was walkable with all of my gear so I parked clear down in the N W corner of the lake and walked. I haven't checked how far that is, but I have to say by the time I got there I was not cold at all.

We got our holes drilled and were catching plenty of fish before anyone else showed up. A few people did come, but they just parked on the road and cut 100 yrds across someones property. O'well they didn't have as much fun as I did on the hike.[crazy]

Catching was pretty steady all morning until we had to leave for Thanksgiving dinner. One strange thing was that the brookies prefered sparkle green paddle bugs while the hybrids and cutts liked the white ones.

My son killed me again today. He caught a 25" hybrid and a massive 22" male brook trout. I did catch a nice 21" brookie. All of my hybrids have been right around the 20" mark so far. We ended up landing 31 this morning, and of course broke off or missed a whole bunch more.

What an awesome lake. I will get one more crack at it in the morning, before family business takes me elsewhere.

Good Luck Everyone

Sounds like an awesome trip. Please post a pic of the big brookies. I would love to see what a brookie over 20's looks like.

Congrats, Windriver, on a good day of fishing. By the way, if you ever get that guilty feeling of trespassing again on an ice fishing trip, remember, as you trudge across that foot or two of snow, you are not walking on another's property, you are walking ABOVE their property!! P.S.: Being a psychology teacher for 33 years, I've always wondered what and where you teach.

Right now, it closes on November 30th. But with the new regs, it will be open New Years Day (one day only).
From then on it opens Memorial weekend and closes Jan 1st.
So basically close Jan through last of May.
