Tigers are wherever there is food (not very helpful i know) I chased them all summer trying numerous bait before finally getting my first and it was a small year old tiger, caught it on a glitter pumpkin tube jig. I don't know where would be the best bet on the ice it sounds like they are caught more by accident during the winter reeling in a perch or other similar small fish. I have been trying a little this winter for them but have yet to catch anything but perch and crappie so far.

"Tigers are wherever there is food"

+1 on that. Find where a school of perch or crappie are then drop your set-up for bigger fish down and hope one is ready to ambush a gimpy snack. We caught one by accident...hit a perch after one reel up and got hooked on our jig.

This is what i have been trying, but those small perch still have big mouths and will still end up on the bigger bait / hook.

All I can say is GOOD LUCK. Every time I go out hunting them I get skunked. The two I've caught in my lifetime were both by accident while targeting other smaller species....especially tough to target through the ice...

Maybe drop down a big ole 5-7" rapala in perch pattern.

I use a spro BBZ when I troll in the summer, but it sucks when you break one of them off...I think the rapalas are only 10 bucks or so.

Just a thought...I've never attempted to target them through the ice. I saw a forum maybe a few weeks back....a guy targeted muskie through the ice up at Newton...even had pics I think included in the post on his set-up. If not, there was a great description. If I knew how to find it I'd link it but...well im "simple". Haha.

We are mainly going down for the perch but I decided since we are down there might as well try for a couple hours for the tigers there, maybe like you guys are saying maybe we can hook into a tiger on accident I wouldn't mind that at all.[Smile] thanks
