Cascade Reservoir
#1
Wondering if anyone has been out on Cascade yet this year. My son and I are fishing a tourney this Saturday on Cascade and were unable to pre-fish it. We have fished it a few times in the past but would love to hear from anyone with some experience fishing this lake.. where and what to use would be helpful.

Ive talked to a few guys who have told me that early in the year right after the ice melts off that they have done really well using plugs - rattle traps, lucky 90s. Couple of the guys in our club said that they have gone up early like this when the water is still cold and have just worn out their arm on 3lb + smallies. Hoping I find something similar to their stories.

I heard that the ice just went off at the end of April so you'll be looking at some mighty cold water. Best to look for some shallows with the highest temp you can find. Possibly some of the coves around the lake. Temps have been hitting mid 60's in Cascade this week so that will help.

Must be a bass tournament. We went to the ice off tournament a couple weeks ago and the trout fishing was pretty good. I actually came in sixth with a 20" 3.35lb male rainbow. The upper end of the lake still had ice on it back then. Fisherman were catching perch up that way, we didn't get one perch bite down by Blue Heron. I think the largest five perch weight was around 5.75lbs.

Some guy must have went out in his boat without the plug because his boat swamped off shore. He put in on the west side boat ramp. The sheriff had to go out in a boat to rescue him from the Blue Heron ramp. He must have had bad hypothermia by the time they got to him. He was in the ambulance for 30 minutes before they took him to that little hospital in town. Don't forget your plug! And good luck on the tourney.
