Steinaker Reservoir questions

Anyone fish Steinaker that much? I am headed to Vernal for the summer for an internship and will have plenty of time in the evenings to fish. I know Pelican is about 20 miles away from Vernal, but Steinaker is right there too. Just looking for information. I know nothing about it and haven't found much about it online. Any information is appreciated. PM me if you want. Thanks!

I fished it once. Caught a nice rainbow out of it. Also supposed to have bass in it too. Not a large lake but still big enough for some fun.

I haven't fished it much recently but, Steinaker has a good population of largemouth bass. Some very nice ones. It is also known for good bluegill fishing, some large brown trout and of course rainbows.

Late spring and through the summer has been good for largemouth bass using spinner baits and buzz baits. Best bluegill action has been on the north end where you will find shallower water and flooded vegetation. Fishing is also usually good along the dam.

The state park and developed picnic area and campgrounds are on the west side of the lake. There is good access for shore and tube fishing on the east side along the highway.

Best Bass spot in Utah. If you go early June when the water is high I can give you some spots you NEED to fish. I have never fished for trout there. I used to live in Vernal and fished Steinaker all the time. Send me a PM if you want more info. Also, let me know if you are going to fish from shore or boat. Sometimes shore is better on that lake.

I remember reading about walleye being in the lake as well or was that Red fleet?

Yes it was Red Fleet ,caught a few in there.

I am also looking for some insight to steinaker for Bass. I am taking my family up in June and to be honest have never fished that lake. So any lure suggestions and general direction would certainly be appreciated.

That was Redfleet. To my knowledge, there are no walleye in Steinaker.

I am mostly interested in finding some bass and bluegill out there. I don't personally know anyone familiar with Steinaker, so I turned here. Just looking for some pointers and general areas that might be good to fish on the reservoir. I have a small boat, but am not sure if I will be able to get to some areas of the lake. Just have a little trolling motor on it right now. Any info is appreciated!

So if I go out there, probably a good idea to take plastics and topwaters for bass instead of fishing for trout or is the trout fishing ok in there too? I don't mind fishing for bass... especially from a tube. I'll be out in a couple weekends so I'll make sure and post a report on it. Thanks for starting a topic about it because I was curious about the lake as well. Anyone have any idea about fishing Red Fleet, I'd be curious about that too...again, fishing out of a tube. Nice to see folks sharing what they know. [fishin]

RiverRat, Trout fishing can be good at Steinaker also. Below is this weeks fishing report for Steinaker from the UDWR website. If that helps you.

"Fishing was improving before the storms. The water is warm enough now, however, that fishing should be good despite the storms. Spring is usually a good time to target the larger brown trout. Try casting or trolling close to the shoreline with an imitation minnow or a brightly-colored lure. Browns and other trout often cruise along the shoreline looking for minnows or something the waves have washed off the shore. (They can access these shallow waters since the water is cold.) Bass fishing should be good after a few of days of warm weather, although a few anglers have also reported catching a few bass in the deeper waters."
