FG Mods

Got the Renegade user friendly, at least for my car.
Here is the mods:
New rear glue on Rod holder and Battery sitting on a piece of carpet and secured.

The I added one more glue on rod holder up front, that is out of the way if I choose to row while fishing:

Both these holders are totally adjustable too, plus I still have the Scotty Tube mount if I find I need one more holder, but this is good so far.

Now The sonar screen is a little challenging. Due to the oars, you are limited to where to mount. I took a 1/4" thick by 3" wide by 18" long piece of wood and attached a piece of velcro as there is some in the bottom of the bag already

I use the 4" Ram mount for the Screen:

Now the Transducer, well I owe that to Peter for sure. So simple!!!

Since this picture I did make another mod. I went to Kirkam's and bought 3" nylon web for the strap, and I put the bolt more to the middle of the aluminum pole. Added a wing nut for easy tightening.

So back to a big boat in a small package.

Oh, and the new feather light oars!!!! Might not be using the motor that much.

Looks real good. I think your going to like the rod holder up front. That is where I have mine and they are like having an extra set of hands.
I am thinking about gluing on some D rings. Are yours 1"? And how hard is it to get them to stick. Ron

Sweet! Nice job, Joni.

How long are your new oars?

I thought you had a rear deck on your Renegade?

Not sure how you attached the aluminum "stick" to the cam strap. I can't see through to the other side [Smile] Does the backside rub against the boat?

I took my Escape out Saturday and fished in a Crappie tournament. I also have the LiteSpeed oars, must have rowed 6 miles. It's a big lake and when the wind comes up, well, let's put it this way, I had to row constantly against the wind and current to get back to my launch point. If I stopped rowing I'd lose ground.

I didn't realize how much I needed the exercise. I felt terrific since I woke up Sunday morning. Love my boat!

I would think you could put your FF head on another glued-on Scotty like you've installed fore and aft.

If I remember, I think you said you have a trailer you use for the Scaddens?

I used to put my 15 ft long kayak on Yakima bars on my VW beetle. Thinking about doing it again with my Scadden. I know what you mean by a small car and the lack of usable space, a boat takes up all the room. I'm surprised there's room for Baxster [Wink]

Yes they are Ron. As far as glue, The glue we got is a two part and made for PVC.
Not too hard though. Clean really well with MEK. Then sand it to scuff it up both patch and outlined spot on boat. Mix the epoxy then let it tack up, then stick. It got easier, but a little scary if you know what I mean. If you are off, you got either a sticky spot or a mess.
I only added the back two, the boat has three on each side.

These new patches also work for the Scotty Fish Finder mount and the Scotty anchor system.

I was using a deck. Pretty cool too cause the rod holders and the transducer were all mounted to it, BUT it is like 4' by 18" and takes up a lot of room in my Vitara, what with fins, waders, boat...etc.

The Oars are 6'6". I like the sling shot effect when rowing because they flex.

The problem with the Scotty mount for the Screen is, where do you put it out of the way of the oars. I could mount another glue on in the same spot, opposite side, but then I have to have a 45° mount for the Scotty to the screen and not sure there is one. I am not done playing with that, but in the bag it is out of the way of everything, and when done, I fold it down and zip it up.

We have a trailer and have used it, but it was designed more for a bigger boat (our 11'6" Cardiacs) It works just fine with our X5's at 10'6", but the Renegades fit okay, but the top one slides because of the way it sits on risers. The front rockers are on the front riser, not the full toon.

And there is ALWAYS room for "B" dog....because it is his boat, he just lets me use it...LOL

I have no doubt "B" owns you and the boat [Smile]

Here's one more idea: This on top of Yakima or Thule bars (not the bike) You throw your fins, tackle bags, etc. inside and your boat on top, tie it down and you're good to go. I have 58 inch bars on my VW so I can strap a rod holder tube on the side if I want to.

"B" can ride on top like a firehouse dog.

And he would probably like it. I don't have the cross bars on my roof, so no go.

You'd have to get the cross bars. IMO, it sure beats inflating deflating inflating routine.

Does the attachment on the cam strap (for your transducer) rub up against your boat?

I also bought the longer oars, mine are 6 footers, decision on length made in consultation with Dave.

The stock oars are mainly for easy packing and work fine, but longer oars are so easy.

I am sure there will be a little rubbing. I did put Velcro on the back of the bolt to cush it, but I end up with marks from the deck and the motor mount. They usually scrub off.

Nice changes!

Does the rear rod holder get in the way if you want to put the cargo deck back on, or is it flat?

They are a rubber plate with square holes on the back for stainless steel nuts. You put them in and glue it down. So if I unscrew the top, yes it is a flat rubber pad.

Here's what it looks like without the Scotty 241 side mount

Those are nice! Being so flat makes it flexible so you can go with different configurations for different waters. I like that!
