"Slap Jacks"
#1
I have been fishing quite a bit this year and it seems to me there is a lot more liter than normal.. I understand during high water generates a lot of plastic but Holly Molly..I think they need to increase the fines for littering and leave the Pot smokers alone. In fact the next "Slap Jack" I see leave their garbage I am going to nicely give them a swift kick! Respect the beauty of Utah or get out.

[cool][#0000ff]Littering, trespassing and vandalism are all major problems around the USA...not just in Utah...but especially in Utah.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I just heard that the Knolls...one of my favorite no fee fishing spots on Utah Lake...is likely to be closed soon to public access. There has long been a littering problem but it has become a lot worse with increased use by the trashy segment of the public. A lot of us have tried to help by filling plastic bags and hauling that stuff out but evidently it has not been enough. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Don't have a definite confirmation yet...or a time established. But that is the current rumor.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]That's also why anglers can no longer access the productive shore fishing areas of Lincoln Beach. Someday our only options will be paying a fee to go fishing. Sad.[/#0000ff]

OH MAN!! nothing gets my blood boiling like seing somebody elses trash all over the place when I am trying to enjoy Utah's beautiful out of doors. It really takes a lazy ignorant piece of shizz to pack something in, consume it and then leave the garbage there. Are you kidding me??? It didnt cause you to much trouble to bring it with you. Now that it weighs less why the heck are you to bothered to take it back out with you. Pull your head out of your arse and think beyond your own selfish laziness. I swear if I ever catch someone doing this in person its on!!!!

Have you heard anything further on the proposal for the State to purchase that (Lincoln Beach) piece of land and use it for a carp processing site and for public access? I haven't seen anything about it after it was announced a couple of years ago.

And yes I couldn't agree more about the litter and vandalism. It's ironic, how many people come on here asking for information on how they can access UL and other fisheries for free then these same places are lost due to the people trashing them.

The Sad thing is, if (and when) the Knolls does get shut to public access, those that currently ignore the no trespassing signs will continue to ignore the new signs. On a recent trip there with BigFishTaco, we observed an entire family completely set up with all their gear on the private property side of the Knolls. They were under those big trees and fishing with cans and line. Not catching anything, just fishing. I was catching fish around them until one guy decided to step up and pee in the water...Gross.

I would love to see more fines from littering. If they gave me the authority to hand out citations I'd do it for free. Nothing like trying to enjoy the outdoors with beer cans and worm containers all around you. Remember when someone left a brown trout on the ice at Pineview this winter?

We went out for a peaceful night fishing to the Jordan river after work last night and some Slap Jack or Slap Jacks decided they would bring out about a half a garbage bag of Chicken (30lbs) and only god know what the hell they were doing with it but they left crap everywhere...All the containers, bones, trash, bottles and cans were piled up.. Made us CRAZY!

I know it is the Jordan River but someone needs to be shot! In most cases I bring garbage bags in my tackle box and carry way more trash out than what I bring in. In this case I needed ten bags and and ten people.

My point my fellow fishing fellows lets try and put an end to this and either report this when stumbled upon or like the Indians did stick an arrow in someones a$$
>>---------> ( )*( ) We are going to try and take the time to go clean it up tonight..
Can't get over it today!!!!!!!

[cool][#0000ff]The proposed purchase of land (and public access) at Lincoln Point is suffering from "the economy". The Utah agencies involved do not want the details made public but it is not looking good right now.[/#0000ff]

[#804000]I know the knolls is bad, but American Fork boat harbor ain't much better and it is a pay to play site.[/#804000]

[#804000]I just wish littering would carry the same weight as a fish and game violation, including suspension of a license.[/#804000]

[cool][#0000ff]I did not mean to imply that merely paying for the privilege of access automatically turned off the litter function on idiots. In fact, it sometimes seems to activate it. Some folks believe that if they are paying for the privilege of using facilities that they are entitled to leave their trash. After all, isn't that what they are paying somebody for?[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I do take a slight exception to your idea of imposing a punishment that includes suspension of fishing privileges. That would not be a deterrent to many of the worst trashaholics. A lot of them don't bother to buy licenses.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Talked to a sheriff who was "checking in" on the Knolls one time. I asked what could be done to help reduce the trash or keep out the folks who were the worst offenders. He said that unless they wait around to actually observe someone leaving behind something they brought in there was little they could do..."on suspicion". He also said that issuing citations did little good because the offenders seldom appeared in court or even responded to the summons at all...and frequently had false identifications with non-existent addresses. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Their only recourse is to haul them into jail...which is a lousy way to spend a shift and accomplishes nothing in the long run. Lots more important items on an average day's agenda...like drownings, assaults, drugs, drive-bys, etc.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In a privately owned and (reasonably) well operated facility like AFBH they still don't have the time or personnel to watch over the hordes of happy trashers who descend on their place on a busy day. All they can do is try to clean up the mess after everybody goes home...minus their trash.[/#0000ff]

[#804000]I have a friend who had an assignment in Russia, and he said that it got so bad there that the school children had a certain hourly obligation to pick up trash in the streets, lakefronts, etc. [/#804000]
[#804000][/#804000]
[#804000]I guess they figure a couple of generations of this and they might police themselves?[/#804000]

I am a big brother with Big Brothers and Sisters of Utah. Last month my "little brother", his sister and I went to the knolls to do some cleanup and a little fishing. We filled the bed of my pickup with bagged trash and didn't get much more than 50 yds. of shoreline & adjacent hillside cleaned up. It's really disgusting what kind of trash the Human TRASH leave behind.

This last week I spent almost a whole day walking the public shoreline of UL north side. I started at Lindon ramp, and worked all the way to Pelican point. I was only able to personally walk certain sections, the rest I was in my car. I could not believe the garbage both in the creek mouths (dry creek, spring creek, and AF river.). If there was a CA / UT redeem value on plastic bottles, I'd be a rich man right now. Crap all along the banks.
I don't remember it being this littered , I am sure TD could make a legit comparison to the 1970's and 1980's to now.
I think the other poster's ideas of bringing a garbage bag with you and doing what you can is good. I cant believe there is even a hint of closing down the knolls.
Yesterday, I took my kids shooting west side by knolls. We had a great time and packed out 6 garbage bags of empty shells/casings blown up tv's, .... you name it. I know its not a fishing area, but they will soon shut this down too. I can almost bet, there are several areas around the lake that used to be easy access and permitted to fish, but no longer due to litter and tresspasing issues. Please do what you can.

I think so.
Rules:
[#4040ff]PROFANITY & VULGARITY:[/#4040ff]
[#4040ff]"BFT Utah membership includes males, females and juveniles. And, since many members let their youngsters read the posts…we need to keep the content “family friendly”. One of the moderator responsibilities is to review the content of every post. We try not to be prudish, but a pattern of overusing even mild cursing will result in moderator involvement. The use of rude, crude language or inappropriate subject matter will definitely incur editing, deletions or loss of posting privileges. And, the substitution of symbols instead of letters in certain words will be construed as actually using the whole word. “Creative” profanity will be moderated too."[/#4040ff]

So instead of "creative profanity" maybe find some other more imaginative expletives that are family friendly. [laugh]

We always hope that members will take a hint when their post have been edited and not use creative words when describing something but it comes down to each user, some members take longer than others to figure it out. When they finally get a PM from a moderator, it is usually after many of their post have been edited. As with all web sites, there are rules that need to be followed and if you are interested in reading them, you are welcome to look at them at the [url "http://www.bigfishtackle.com/forum/Utah_Fishing_Forum_C55/Utah_Fishing_General_F58/gforum.cgi?post=369092;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;page=unread#unread"]top of the Main Utah board[/url]. Remember, BFT is NOT a public web site, it is a private site and by signing up you agreed to follow these rules. If you or any members of BFT feel like you are not being treated fairly you are welcome to contact the owner of the site but since he and the Utah mods are the ones that wrote the rules, it might be a tough sell.

Sad to see another nice access point go by the wayside due to those inconsiderates that think the world is their garbage can. Hope that it doesn't happen.
