Hit Newton this evening for a few hours, not knowing what to expect. Well, we had the lake all to ourselves except for one Moomba wakeboarding boat. They guy was launching the same time as me. He was one I respect. Very nice and stayed on the opposite end of the lake as me. We passed once and he even slowed down to wakeless speed. Now that's how it is supposed to be!! I appreciated that a lot.
Anyways, saw lots of tiger muskie on top of the water, but no bites tonight. Was throwing spinner baits and topwaters. Had fun. I have to take the GRE tomorrow, so I said the heck with it, I wanted to fish. I did end up catching a nice largemouth that was 2.75 lbs. Caught it on a buzz bait. Brought back some good ol' memories of some monsters in Alabama that you could put both of your fists in their mouths. Obviously, this one wasn't as big as that, but it still put up a great fight. I let it swim away after the pic.
And I am looking for a 5 hp outboard if anyone knows of one. Let me know. Thanks!

If I were in Alabama, I would have kept it, but ones this size out here I toss right back. There are plenty of big ones to go around there. But I haven't run into too many bigger ones, although the two biggest I have caught have been out of Newton. Plus, it was the only fish caught anyways.

Thanks! My buddy wanted to catch a muskie, but I am just as happy when I catch a nice bass. I am not as keen as many guys on here. I just fish the way my dad taught me too (which was in a totally different climate in south Alabama), and sometimes it works. I just love some bass fishing.

HA! no worries and I hear the frustrations. I have hit that puddle 11 times this year and have to land a "shark" so I know where you are coming from.
Hopefully next time, but still, seriously nice fish for coming out of that place. Right on!

I've got a 15 horse that will make that little boat haul butt. Had it on an aluminum that size.

Haha. The boat we were in was my buddy's. 15 horses would make my boat do flips.[cool]

Nice going bud. That's a good bass alright.
That skiboat might have thought you were the undercover fuzz and just pretending to be an angler. Been known to happen (just not often enough!). I'll bet the "launch" is getting pretty steep? But dangit if a ski boat can still get out there!
I thought you already had a motor (or two) lined up? I'd agree 15hp on a 12ft plastic boat - might cave in the transom. My back transom is low, and when I got on good plane with a 10 - then stopped short, was afraid the wake might wash over the back!
I'd love to step up to something faster, but both the weight and the stress -might rip a little tub apart!
Twins - what you should try is swim down and hook a fish ONTO your friends line, then give it a tug - guaranteed catch! (there's some joke videos on Youtube teasing drunk anglers - worth a chuckle)
