Mantua Dinks (9-11)
#1
Mantua - Went to Mantua with UtahGolf and my twin today from 8am to 3pm. I caught 1 LMB, 4 yellow perch and 10 bluegills. My twin caught 2 LMB's and 1 perch and 2 Bluegills . UtahGolf spent his whole time looking for LMB's and managed to get one in the boat and lost a few others, even one that he reeled in with his hands.[frown] I got around 11 "minnow like" LMB's.

UtahGolf used assorted plastics while I used a "tube dude special" black sparkly jig for most of the panfish and a Blue Fox Gold Spinner size #2 tipped with a nightcrawler for the LMB's and even a few panfish. UtahGolf and I scoured the lake looking for bass but it was a no go. Eventually my twin joined me after his new toon went flat, his oar lock broke, and his seat broke! Talk about a rough day! The wind was pretty bad too.

Yeah we have had trouble with this toon before. Tube Dude put 2+ hours into it and eventually we sent it into the company. I think they gave him the same tube with a different cover. The seat mount will take some creativity to save $45 and the oar lock will need replacement.

A-men to the "better than work" comment! Sure was.

I'm blaming the moon and the wind on the slow fishing. woulda liked to have seen that fish that destroyed my bait!! it was funny to hear that kid freak out at the dock when he heard I released that bass! he acted like I was speaking spanish when I uttered the words "catch and release" ha.

It was "Creek Comapany" Pontoons. UtahGolf released that bass so it is in there for the taking next time by us to eat! A kid on the beach gave him a big old "WHY!" when UtahGolf told him he released it. I laughed pretty hard. My twin said "kinda reminds you of when we 1st met you huh UtahGolf?" Grilling works well on bass too! I had to tell him I would look the other way while he released it.[laugh]

Looks like we posted at the same time, and mine was 2nd to post up. That kid was priceless!

I would like to add to your excuse list the fact that I have never been there that early before. I usually show up at 3pm and stay until 8pm. This was the opposite shift for sure (8am to 3pm). Everytime I take someone up there and promise them great fishing, it sucks big time! Murphy's Law I guess?

Hey guys back in town haha...

I wouldn't blame the time as I was on the water at 5:30 AM and fished till noon the other day and caught over 20 LMB all good sized from shore... and got the picks and witnesses to prove it...

Sorry for the no answer on the phone. Wasn't around or in service

[center]Sounds like a misnomer.
Doesn't the "L" stand for large?[:p]

Maybe you should heed Lava's note - that the name stands for "BIG FISH tackle" [blush]

So - Sept 11th was a disaster a decade ago, and some things just don't change, eh?! [shocked] Sorry to hear it. Hate spending more time on equipment failures than casts. Came back to a dead battery in the car, ugh. Good thing I had one on the boat!

And I hope ya realize - I'm just ribbing! Had a similar panfish-frenzy on Newton. Biggest bass was a footlong - and that sucker took some RUNS (since I had my drag set SO loose!). But it was fun - actually picked up the net!

Was almost gonna hit Mantua, but that launch will be good for a long time to come. This seemed like the window where the big boats will be off Newton, and the lil' anglers can take over again!
I LOVED that that jet-skier got sent packing! That DNR dude earned his pay for the WEEK!

If you keep an eye on Woot - I picked up some of these planks, WAY better deal than the grocery store version. Untreated cedar shingles can do the trick.

12 for $9.99 is a pretty killer deal if you like planking on your grill.

Last shot is a Mantua harvest from a few years ago.

[center]Seen any Bluegill Boils at Sunset?

Wow that second pic looks straight out of a cook bok. Maybe after we catch a keeper cat I'll have you cook it for me [Wink] Haha It'll happen!

Credit where credit is due. That 2nd pic is from the Woot site, so probably is from a cookbook, or the plank-advert.

Though I have been known to dress up a simple meal. Discovered sprinkling Paprika when I was dating. Bit of garnish - just for show.
Did you ever catch my "poor man's lobster plate" ?

Had a round of fish-tacos last night. Perch and bass breaded with Panko. Hmmmm hmmm. Sorry, no pix.

What'll happen, the cooking or the catching?
Nothing like some smoked kitty to wet yer whistle!
