Jordan river
#1
Anyone have any tips on fishing the jordan? I work and live close to the river, so I thought it would be a good fishery I can go to. Is there certain areas that are private property and off limits? I scouted the parkway starting from 10600 going south..I found some access points but didn't see any fish (probably had something to do with the river being a foggy green color). I did however see two ducks and a cat with a rat in it's mouth. You think typical 4 lb line would be ok for the Jordan, or should I go bigger?

Spinners for white bass, worms for catfish.

Worms for carp, too.

You could also try curly tail jigs, heavier ones will stay down lower, but you will lose a lot. Or I have, anyway.

The weight of the line is up to you, I had a Jordan river fish break off a 12 lb leader on me--it was a carp, I think. If you get bluegill or other panfish 6 lb should be fine but some of those big cats and carp would run and just keep going with 6 lb, in my experience.

Good luck [Image: bobwink.gif]

12 pound test is a good idea. For Catfish use white bass. To catch white bass use spinners or spinnerbaits tipped with a nightcrawler. There are a ton of fish in the jordan!

I fly fish the Jordan. I have caught White Bass, Crappie, Trout, Cat and Carp out of there and I generally use 6 lb fluoro. I did jump to 10 lb fluoro this summer because of the vegitation in there.
12 lb would be an all around safe, so would 10.

It also comes down to what your rod or pole is. If it is very stiff/fast, then by all means, go with the 12lb.

i would not fish the jordan river with less then 10 to 20 pound test line .
Me and the kids hit the jordan all most every week of the year..... in the same area you are talking about[fishin].
it is a good place to take the kids out fishing . i take my kids 2 or 3 times a week in the summer . we most always catch a few bass or cats
this time of year when we go fish the jordan we mostly just go for a walk . not the best late fall 2 early spring place to fish.

I agree this time of year is not the best on the jordan especially with high waters this year. I use ten pound when I fish it never had a fish break the line there I've even caught up to 15 pound channels. But right now I would use wax worms for the.carp and mud cats .

Thanks guys for the advice. Looks like I'll have to get some 10 or 12 lb line.
