Soldier Creek Strawberry ICE?
#1
Just wondering if anyone has been to the berry lately, more specifically the Soldier Creek area. Any report of ice anywhere up there would be much appreciated. I'm planning trips Wednesday and Saturday, just wondering what type of gear to be taking and if I'll be able to wet a line from shore. I know, be ready for anything, but would be nice to know what to be ready for. Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi FishCop, I drove by Soldier Creek this past Saturday 12/10 on the way to Starvy, and people were fishing on the ice.

I fished there (the Soldier Creek side) 12/8/11. The bays are iced over and some people were fishing through the ice. I have no idea how thick the ice is though. We fished open water but did not do very well. For the most part there is more open water than ice but that could have changed since last week.

I fished that first bay of Soldier Creek right at the turn-off to the dam on Saturday. There was around 4 inches of ice. Had many more bites than hookups but caught plenty. Three were decent Cutts right at the slot limit (all went back). More were smaller bows (2 kept for dinner). I did not drive on around to the dam, so I cannot speak for ice there - though it was capped as far as I could see. On the Strawberry side, looking from the road on the way home, it did not appear to be capped.

I fished the first bay at Soldier Creek Sunday (midday, as my wife does not do early). We did not do very well. She caught 1 small bow, and I caught 5 or six. None over 14", and no cutts. 4" of solid clear ice, but does have alot of cracks on it, which were cracking more as we stepped on them.
Good Luck, hope yours is better than ours was (I was fairly disappointed for my first trip to the berry hard deck.)

Also, there is open water past the first point there, so that bay by the road is all that is ice fishable on that side.
