Any info on the ice conditions at Starvey, would really like to take a trip down there in the near future. I live in E-Town and don't want to make the long trip without knowing how the ice is. Thanks in advance.

People have been ice fishing the bridge for a week or two now. http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=709599#p709599

Ice conditions at and south of the bridge area on Starvation are good. I measured 10" of good solid ice south of the bridge on Dec. 28. The entire lake is pretty much capped with clear bare ice. No snow. However, there are still some open spots in Rabbit Gulch and I have noticed several areas, particularly along the east shoreline where the ice has broken up and then re-froze. Right now the only ice i would trust is in the area near the bridge and in the very back of some of the bays (Rabbit Gulch, Indian bay and bays south of Indian Bay). I haven't checked out the Knight Hollow area yet. We really need a good cold snap to get Starv in prime condition.

what kind of fish are in starvation? Perch, Walleye, trout? And I drove past today and people were fishing both sides of the bridge.

The upper end of Rabbit Gulch has 5.5 inches of ice today. The entire bay of Rabbit Gulch was capped. I heard from others that the new ice in the bay was 3-inches thick.

Youngbuck. Yes there are perch, walleye, rainbow trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, Utah chub, carp etc...
People were fishing both sides of the bridge on very wet ice today.

From reports I've seen that lake seems to hold some chunky representatives of many types. Especially the Perch (14"), and the Starvation Steelheads, as some call 'em. Check some of Tubedudes past post for example if you want to be impressed and amazed. Crossineyes gets out there and nails em good too!

[cool][#0000ff]While most starvyholics lust after the elusive walleyes, they usually settle for perch and trout. There are some BIG perch in there but the average catch is under 8 inches. Lots of rainbows up to 24" and some BIG browns.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Walleyes usually hang around in the same areas as the smaller perch (dinner) but are much harder to entice. They have plenty of natural food.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There are a lot of smallmouth in Starvation but they usually go deep in the winter and are seldom caught until they return to the shallows in May.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The perch can be caught anywhere from under 20'...around weedbeds...to over 60' deep in the old channels. Sometimes you have to move around to find active fish...or fish big enough to keep. You might catch all sizes out of the same hole but generally you will find fish of similar size in the same area. Keep trying deeper or shallower...or looking for breaklines or other structure until you find a productive spot.[/#0000ff]
