Marlin Universitys 2012 Schedule Includes Top Billfishing Destinations
#1
Winter Park, Fla. - Marlin University, the one-of-a-kind, hands-on blue-water fishing educational program, has released its 2012 semester schedule, with courses set in five top billfishing destinations. Each course is a five night/4 day all-inclusive adventure designed to enhance and perfect an angler's existing blue-water fishing skills. This semester, students can enroll in programs in Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and Bermuda.

Marlin University instructors, include Marlin magazine editors Dave Ferrell and Capt. Peter B. Wright. Capt. Wright is a world-renowned angler, scientist, journalist, consultant, and an advocate of circle hooks and tag-and-release. As a captain, he's fished waters all over the world, has won dozens of tournaments, and has guided numerous anglers to world records, in the process, catching more granders than anyone in history. Captain Peter B. Wright was an inductee into the 2007 IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame.

"We are very excited about our lineup of destinations this year" said Marlin University instructor Dave Ferrell. Adding Bermuda and the Dominican Republic to our mix satisfies both our quest for lots of bites -- from the small blues and whites in the DR -- to targeting grander blue marlin off Bermuda's legendary banks. And as usual, we've kept our tried and true destinations in Costa Rica, Guatemala and now Tropic Star Lodge to offer the only true big game sportfishing school on the planet taught by real big game captains."

The 2012 semester will have its first course on March 5-10 in Carrillo Beach, Costa Rica. Known for its sunny skies and flat-calm seas, Costa Rica is the perfect place for anglers to vacation with their families, while also learning to catch blue, striped and black marlin.

For a wider array of billfish species, Marlin University offers its next course in the remote area of Travel Star Lodge in Panama on March 17-22. The reef of Panama's Pinas Bay ranges from 120 to 350 feet deep and supports aquatic life such as blue marlin, black marlin, pacific sailfish, and Dorado and yellowfin tuna.

For those interested in learning the intricacies of the bait-and-switch method, Marlin University offers a course in the plentiful seas of Guatemala's Pacific coast on April 24-29. With 124 releases in a single day by one boat, it's clear that students won't wait long for a bite.

Marlin University is offering two new locations in 2012: the Dominican Republic and Bermuda. The May 7-12 course in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic, is perfect for light-tackle world-record chasers, while the July 23-28 semester-ending course in Bermuda offers the exact opposite, with 1,000-pound-plus marlin.

Tuition for each class covers the cost all basic expenses from the moment the student walks out of the airport: ground transportation from the airport to the hotel, daily meals, hotel accommodations, and all fishing expenses. Special group rates are also available.

Each course is full of hands-on blue-water instruction using professional-level fishing gear on modern sport-fishing boats. Some of the topics covered include: tackle selection; specific angling skills; bait rigging and presentation; as well as handling and boating fish.

Maximum teacher-to-student ratio is no more than four students per instructor and/or boat. Smaller class sizes ensure students the best offshore education.
