Berry 3/3
#1
Fished the ladders area of strawberry today. Took my son and wife. Didn't arrive until early afternoon. Thought we would try the last half of the day for a change, as I always fish the early AM. The air temp was in the mid 20's with a persistent wind. Fishing was pretty decent for mid afternoon, landed 3 and lost a really nice one right at the bottom edge of the ice. A large ice fly with 1/2 a Crawler did the trick. Had other light bites and missed opportunities while dragging my boy around on the sled. We left at about 5PM, it was all my 3 year old could stand. Talked to a fellow angler Who said he did really well right at the ladders inlet(I guess we were WAY too ambitious). Oh well I need the exercise. Didn't take any pics today, but attached one from an earlier trip to the berry this winter. 24"7lb bow.

Anyway I am new to BFT and glad to be posting.

Sounds like fun!

How much snow is on the ice? How about slush?

About 4" crusty snow, and at least a couple inches of slush under that. In a couple spots it may have been a little dicey for the wheeler. The ice is getting really thick, my hand auger was getting pretty close to bottoming out before it broke through. Whew!! A very good argument for the powered auger.
