Another member posted this link but I thought you wiper guys would love this: http://www.facebook.com/...rces/136959382981749
I figured this would happen last year but man is that a fat wiper. It was caught yesterday at Willard, 10 lb 2 oz.

I may have to rethink fishing Willard on sunday and head elsewhere. That is a big fish and with the weather being forcast in the 80's that place will be rockin.

Dayummmm! thats a beast!! i bet she was full off eggs! My biggest came about this time of year about 2 yrs ago, she was 6.4 lbs and full of eggs caught in the north marina! was using a 5ft6 ultra light on 4lb line fishing for crappie, that fish pulled like a train, i could not fathom a 10lber

who caught it?

According to that link, it was caught by Josh Keesler from Farr West. I wish they would give more details but maybe this guy will sign up and tell us himself, unless he is already a member.[:/]

Yeah, more specifics would be good, Like length and girth. If I would have caught mine in the spring maybe it would have weighed that much. it's a toad for sure. Smile

Length was 26 inches, and girth was 19.75 inches. He was casting from the shore and using a lure (not sure what type). Hope this helps!

I was wondering what some of those mature wipers would look like after a couple of years with all the shad they have had to feed on. Now I have a better idea.

Thanks Amy for the added info, that sure gives a lot of shore anglers some hope. I've been wondering how long it would take to break the old state recond, took a little longer than I thought.

They grow to 15+lbs in some Colorado waters.

I think more would reach that size in Willard if there was a smaller limit. Maybe not though.

The colorado state record is a hog at almost 27 lbs and 37 inches. Willard is too shallow to produce wipers much bigger than this fish caught yesterday. I'm glad they cut the limit at Willard this year, hopefully it will keep a few move alive to reach that 10 lb size.

That was my thinking. I mean those wipers are great to eat but what I think we all enjoy most about them is the fight. I don't recall, what did they change the limit to... 3 or 2?

Thanks Amy

I still have the length beat, but that is one fat egg filled girl,If I would have only caught mine in April/May Smile

I should have never kept mine I would have a solid C&R record.
This big girl didn't weigh. Sad
