Went to UL today after work i was on a mission to catch another good size one for the cat contest The first fish i caught was a white bass on rotten worms. I cut his head of and put it on a 5/0 hook and caught the first 28 incher. I got my white bass head back on the hook and threw it back out i missed a few and decided to let them take it a bit longer and set the hook slower it worked well caught another 28 incher. i also caught two 27 inchers and 2 mud cats one mud cat on a crank bait. I have seen them rolling on the top big black tails waving at me.

Hi, I'm new to the forum, Noobie. I love cat fishing! Are you just out there in the middle of the lake?! I'm taking the boat out there tomorrow afternoon and would like to find some cats like that. Of course, I can understand if you'd rather not say where!

Welcome. Cats are some fun fishing!
Others can tell you better about Utah Lake, if that's where you're going. But generally - this time of year you might target shallows, warm water - work the reed edges.
I tend to look for inlets, outlets, pockets into the reeds or edges. Places that hold up minnows. Sometimes working the edges or the points can produce too.
There's a catfish contest, and entries are still open, if you're interested.
Daniel here is showing us northerners how it's done!
(there's some maps - from the all-knowing Tubedude - he's got lots of great info on Utah Lake. I'll try to send you some later)

And folks tell ME I catch some ugly cats! Teehee.
Nice going man, you're spanking me!
rotten worms? That a specialty, or a statement that the whitees aren't to discerning?!
Mind if I ask - you fishing on the bottom, or under a float? I'll often do one of each, but I can't fish bottom with the wind so well. Today was a bit breezy!

You can get them from shore just as well. Monday morning my son and I caught a few. Here are the two that came home for supper.

I used a float with 4 feet of leader. When the big cat bites the float just disappears. The little ones cant pull it under for very long.

If you are launching a lincoln beach. Right now it seems to be better if you fish in the rocky areas. Yes im not going to give up my exact location just yet.

Very nice cats. Always fun to catch those big ol' males.
I've tried to get on the water at LB the last two mornings but just did not dare chance it with kids in the boat. Maybe an afternoon launch would provide calmer water. Got there this a.m. and tried to wait it out by taking the kids for a short hike up to the Indian petroglyphs above the road. Ran in to a big ol' rattler up there that scared the bejeepers out of the kids. Didn't bother me none -- I needed to change clothes anyway.
Still waiting for someone to come up with an over-30 incher. Looks like your hole just might do it. Good luck to ya.
