Sturgeon Trip
#1
[inline IMAG0077.jpg]

Finally got a tip to a great spot not too far from Twin! We caught several that evening but this was the first and the largest. Got a bite in less than five minutes and a little over an hour later, here he was! Got a decent sized catfish further upriver (outside of milner) than I have before! Great night and I've been back to that hole since with similar success. It's great to finally catch some decent sized dinos!

This guy was 6.5 feet and was awesome to see up close. It stayed in the shallows with us for a few minutes long enough for some pics then took off to be caught again...

And here's the cat... He ate a whole mort with a 10/0 hook!

EDIT: Couldn't get the cat pic to inline so it's attatched

Very nice trip and glad you experienced the miracle of catching a sturgeon.

I would ask that you please consider the sensitive and delicate nature of this protected and wonderful fish and please keep thier head in the water and not so far out of the water and up against rocks.

I am not being critical, just making a plea on behalf of the fish.

thank you for your consideration

Good looking fish! Nice, fat, and healthy!

I agree 100% with Metal though on keeping the head in the water and away from a lot of rocks.

Keep up the great work though! Glad you got an awesome spot [fishin]

I understand, in the excitement of finally catching a large one I wasn't thinking about that... I'll be sure to be more careful in the future!

I was using a 10oz pyramid weight on a slider with a 10/0 barbless hook on a dacron leader with a 6 inch trout mort secured with half knots. Bank fished with a cheap reel that gave out on me after the next fish. I've since upgraded my reel.

Good times! I saw, in all seriousness, at least 10 jump and once come up so close the bank it was almost creepy. I've never seen so many in one section of the river, but then again I'm new to this.

Nice fish congrats. Have never fished for sturgeon in Idaho but it looks like fun.

What kind of rod and reel setup were you using?
