New to Blackfoot
#1
I am new to the Blackfoot area, and need a hands-on orientation to the area's fishing locations and strategies. I'm used to small stream, High Sierra fishing in California, and haven't fished a diversity of settings. I don't want a float trip, or even boat fishing--I don't own either, and want tips on the kind of fishing I will do on my own--both fly and spin, depending on conditions. I just want a fishing tutor, someone who wants to get paid to fish, experienced but no expert. I've asked at some local sporting goods stores with little luck. Any advice on how to find such a resource person?

If u are used to using both those setups I would say u won't find much too different. Mostly without traveling there u will be fishing the snake and in it u will find mOstly trout. I always have really good luck with panther martins on the river by Shelley. There's lots of access there. Plenty of places to get to the water

Not sure what shop you went to but most shops will take you fishing if you pay them. I think without a permit you are not allowed to guide someone.

Welcome to BFT. There are a couple of different routes that you can take to learn the area. You can just get started by asking specific questions to both those of us on BFT and your local tackle dealer other forums etc... or you can choose to hire a registered guide for a specific water.

Most people on here would be reluctant to except pay for fishing lessons because it is considered guideing without a license. That doesn't mean that you won't find helpful people on here if you aske specific questions about the type of fishing that you want to do.

If you are into flyfishing Jimmys in IF often has casting lessons, fly tying lessons and will offer plenty of advice on what to do to get started. I don't know the Blackfoot area stores.

Good luck on your adventure and I hope to help you in the future.
