Mantua 10/3-10/14
#1
Now that fall is here I decided it was time to spend a few mornings at mantua. I fished it 4 times in the last week or so. I had good days where I caught 10-12 fish and then days like to today where I caught only 4. I did get a chance to meet up with some BFT'ers in the process so that was cool too. I ran into and or fished with ..SatainLBZ801,RockyRaab and CoyoteSpinner.

I mainly caught trout but also mixed in a few bass and perch. I may hit it a few more times before the ice..Even when the fishing isn't that great at Mantua I always enjoy my time there, Something about that lake keeps calling me back.

Since most of the fish were standard planters I didn't take to many pictures but here are a few.[inline "Mantua Rainbow fall 2012.jpg"]

Another decent rainbow..[inline Mantuabow.jpg]

This was a double hookup Bow and perch...[inline "Mantua Rainbow and Perch.jpg"]

It was nice meeting you out there. Good day for fishing, even if the catching weren't so great. Fall colors in the canyon alone made the drive worth it!

Any tugs is welcome tugs. (just don't ask jdawg about that [mad])

Yeah I love the Uintas too but hate burning all that gas. Im lucky to live in Ogden. I have Pineview, Mantua, Weber and Ogden rivers all with in like 20mins of my house. The Ogden is literally 30 seconds from my house. To bad it hasn't been fishing very good this year... Well for me anyway.

Thanks Fishinfudd..

Sinergy.. Hopefully there's still some good fishing up there when you get your new toon rolling. I think that if the water clears up soon it will be awesome. I marked tons of fish on my finder..just couldn't figure them out as good as I would have liked.

Hers one last picture. I just got this from SatanLBZ801.[inline "mantua pic.bmp"]

Ya uinta is far away but cping there for 3 or 4 days worth th gas money and hile up new lakes. Lets hope the gas price will drop big time again that would really help me. $40+ to fill my tank up all the way. That's sweet you live close to pine view, caught a few nice bass last year before camping price doubled. Gosh that killed me this year . The closest lake for me is Utah lake but rarely go there. I've been spending more time now on the Jordan river to try finding more channel kitties but only one this year.

Man I missed this post. Great to hear you got out. Was hoping to hear the bluegills were going nuts for you. Still rainbows are nice but I have them closer to home. Well I guess you could say that for everything in Mantua for that matter.

I will get you on the ice my friend!

Im considering ice fishing this year. Can I use my flyrod?[Wink]

I have some "ice flies" for you to use. Now you could dip the line in the hole. Just stand back a bit is all. Hell why not put the fly reel on the ice rod?

Close your eyes and you could imagine you are "dipping" a fly in a small uinta creek!

Expensive PVC coated fly line down a 6" or 8" hole with sharp edges......YIKES. You could fish flies however. I am tying several for just that purpose. Not me, but my brother. JLG, you still got your spinning gear[Wink]

Haha! Yeah I was kidding about the fly rod. I just never had even the slightest interest in ice fishing but soooo many people keep telling me to try it. I might give it a shot. I just never have really seen the need for it in my case because I usually keep fishing rivers through winter. But like I said Ill probably give it a try this year.

That's the beauty about whiskey... It's freeze around -13 F. Something stronger even colder! **CHEERS**

I hear you. Every year, people try to convince me to take it up, but it just doesn't sound that appealing to me either. I'd much rather fish a creek or river with my fly rod than sit over a hole in the ice. Besides, my wife would kill me if I told her I was buying a bunch of new gear for it.
