I was out there today on the rock pile, the ice is easily 4 inch when you measure it, it looks 2 inch. But it started shifting and popping around 11. Fishing looked really good, a lot of good cuts and a few ok lakers, plenty of Cisco and suckers to go around! There were about 50-60 people out there at noon

You sir have that lake dialed in! One day wet, the next on ice, and slamming them on both.

Maybe someday I can tag along and learn the ropes. Thinking it's time for some disco-ing!

you all should get up while the fishing is still hot it. Trout fishing will shut all the way down for weeks after this next week

sounds like it is capped now, if the wind doesnt blow hard and the temps stay cold the ice should get better. Sounds like some iffy ice right now in places. There are always vents and springs to worry about on bear lake but its a great place to fish through the ice.

By request since a lot of people keep asking and as we just got off the lake...

The ice is very FLAKY in certain areas. Some spots are 4.5-5 inches, others are less than 2!

Someone drove a 4-wheeler out there a few hours ago and fortunately stopped half way out as it's very sketchy as to where it is thick enough to support single body weight.

For those heading out Saturday, please be careful and watch your step. There is a beaten patch now of tracks and sleds; however there are still two large places where the ice has cracked and is shifting; leaving openings of up to 4 feet.

For daily updates on the ice (done twice a day) check out Darin's site at:

Be Safe and have fun!

Yes,but very rewarding when you are careful! Caution is king out there! When i left we had to cross a 2 foot gap. Not cool! More pics. The first is a tagged cut that I could no longer read the numbers on.The other 2 macks are 10 and 12 lbs or so! The first I caught while out with Setthehook on a whole dead Cisco. The second was the next day right @ moonrise. 3 40pm hhmmm? White tube tipped w/Cisco. Hope the ice holds so we can go again bro!
