Complete defeat: Berry and UL.
#1
Well, the evil Strawberry wins another round, making it 12-0 her favor. Headed up the Soldier Creek side on 5/2, hitting the water about 20min before the sun peeked over. Not a bite for 3 hours on anything from worm/marshmallow to PB, to tubes, spoons, Jakes, twisties, nothing. The big bay we were in, over by all the big summer homes was ice free and we kayaked around the north and west sides of that marina, but no luck.

Went over to the steep shore south of the Ladders, where there was ice closer to shore thinking maybe fishing along the ice edge might help. Nothing but a few crawdads.

Touched down at DC on the way back, just to ask around about the action, and found nothing happening in Walburg Bay, but it was midday, so expectations were low. Debated returning to Strawberry for evening bite.

With all the sunshine thought maybe UL might have something going on, so hit Battle Creek mouth and LindonBH north dike. Nothing. Worked down by the Bubble Up and cast worms and chubs out as far as we could from shore. Nothing for an hour.

Finally, buddy's pregnant wife called with some need for help, and we left UL a but before sundown.

Long day. I HATE Strawberry. It like being the only guy still sitting, when every girl at the dance is
taken.

@ the Berry a try small Rainbow Trout Pattern Tube jigs near at the entrance of the narrows. Drop them down till they hit the bottom and slowly work them up.

Oh Dang did realize you were on foot I thought I read you were in a kayak. The closest point I can think of is Renegade. I rowed my toon there not sure about hoofing it.

Strawberry is difficult on foot. You pretty much need a boat, float tube, or toon.[crazy]

Should have casted closer to the shore for success on UL. Most of the active fish seem to be as shallow as possible this time of year...

That sucks! Days like that make me wonder why I do this. Hard to stay excited about it. Grab your fly rod and start fishing rivers... You won't be disappointed!

I have friends who golf and say they love it... but all they do is complain about how poorly the play. Seems odd to me they love something that frustrates them so much.

I rarely get frustrated fishing. If you hate a lake, I think that is a sign.... Maybe you should find another hobby or just learn to enjoy the fresh air and solitude. There is a lot more to fishing than catching.

I gave up reporting most of my skunk trips, keeps the lurkers thinnin' you're a miracle worker!

But it is nice when you can get a rhythm, pattern, location that can be effective consistently. Even so - different day, weather, wind direction - what worked yesterday is no guarantee today.

Still - always nice to get out and sunburn the cheeks some more!

I do have a homemade kayak. I just hadn't envisioned a.long open water voyage in it, watery could be done.

We hit a spot I've caught SOME fish in before, and at ice off, the whole place is supposed to be ok.

I consistently catch one slot cutt per @ 8 hours fishing at Strawberry, so there is obviously something I am missing about the place.

Yeah, well, the whole reason we were casting so far out was that we'd already tried your suggestion for a couple hours. We started in just 2-3' of water.

I usually have no trouble finding something at UL, although I've kinda lost my big bluegills since the high water a couple years ago.

][crazy] Seriously? Are you actually scolding me?[crazy]

"If you hate a lake, I think that is a sign.... Maybe you should find another hobby or just learn to enjoy the fresh air and solitude. There is a lot more to fishing than catching."

The "hate" is Tongue in cheek, I did enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, and I don't need a new hobby. Thanks for the cliche; I had almost forgotten there is more to fishing than catching.[Wink] I am pleased for you, that you don't get frustrated, but I did, so I posted. When was the last time you actually, truly went a dozen trips without a fish? It gets old.

I try Strawberry at least a couple times a year, because the potential is there for a great day, and I hear of people catching dozens of big trout a day. Sounds fun! But, despite lots of advice, money invested, and all the support and "hotspotting" BFT has to offer, I have NEVER caught more than ONE slot cutt in a trip. Fifteen times in a row! I ain't crying, but I do feel like mentioning it as kind of a self- depricating, "ain't that something?"

I mean, come on, if that doesn't deserve a good natured little grumble, I don't know what does.[:p]

I haven't fished since early Feb., and the $30.00 I spent on gas might be the only cash in a month that is mine to do as I please with. I might not get out fishing again for weeks since I work three jobs. (probably will) Let me gripe my tiny little gripe, and commiserate along as a fellow angler who has tasted the skunk yourself. Not hurting anybody.

Last time I griped on this site was when I was trying to learn icefishing, and got skunked twelve times running. How could you not?

Would I go again tomorrow? Yep! Just isn't all full stringers and tight lines out there, so I thought I'd pay a little homage to my reality.

Now, golf? That's another layer of griping, I've heard.

Exactly! Apparently, an hour before we got there was amazing, according to the guy across the bay.
