Where can I catch large fish in Utah? 15+lbs
#1
So I was susposed to go deep sea fishing this weekend and it got canceled so I want to go somewhere where I can catch fish that put up a good fight. Can anyone recommend somewhere in southern Utah that has large fish?

you make it sound like catching really big fish is easy...you have a number of options that could possibly provide for fish in southern utah over 15 pounds--Lake Powell and Fish Lake are just two. BUT, your chances of actually catching something that big are pretty small...good luck! Also, if you think people are going to jump out of the wood work telling you where you can catch some of these fish, you are crazy!

W&B is correct, there are a few streams and lakes that have fish up to 10 lbs but without a doubt Powell and FL are your best bet for a fish of 15 lb or larger. Your chances of catching fish that big without a guide are slim to none unless you fish there a lot and finding a guide for this weekend is also not likely. By the way welcome to the site and good luck on you big fish quest.

forget about the size thing. Just throw that out the window.

I've done the deep sea fishing thing numerous times out of San Diego. It's a hoot. I love it.

But, I've caught more (and nicer) salt water fish out of Lake Powell in a single day than on all of those ocean adventures combined!!

Go to Lake Powell and go find some stripers. Best salt water fishing you'll ever have!!

This whole post seems fishy to me! New member logs on, makes one post, and never logs back on?

Think W&B was onto something with the "crazy" suggestion.

I'd suggest the Great Salt Lake - it's salty, so maybe it'll have some deep sea fish for ya.

Fresh Water Tarpon - that's what you really want.

LOL, well you are right about catching a fish that is over 15 lbs by coming up the Southern Idaho and fishing for sturgeon, I think the smallest one I've ever caught up there is 40 lbs. Some fun times fishing on the Snake river, that is for sure[Smile].
