Got info from Stripercraze a 40 pounder was caught on Saturday 8-24-13. It was on a guide boat jigging spoons in the Vegas Wash.

I know him, his name is Mark Eddison and it was in the 30# range, he has caught 2 over 30# in the last week in 200ft of water jigging a spinnow in pink color. They were in Cape fear just past sand Island.

man that's good to know cause I have a bunch of pink buzz bombs from when I lived in Seattle chasing pink salmon, I always wondered if they would work in the lake. [sly]

Mark is a good guy , He don't need to make up stories of big fish , I doubt that he even put the fish on a scale , he has caught so many big stripers in his day .

FishDude,
Mark is a great fisherman and has caught a bunch of big fish. It is weird to me that you are questioning his catch. If I recall the brown trout that you caught at cave lake was 7 pounds on one site, 10 pounds on another site and at best was 4-5 pounds!!!! It was a great catch for sure but why different weights for different forums???? You could probably learn a thing or 2 if you hired Captain Mark, then you would have many more fish to EAT...... Best of luck to ya.

There is a picture down at laker plaza. I stopped in for some corn on the way out Friday night and they had it tapped to the counter. It caught my attention because fo the date on the picture. Seems legit, pretty big fish but i agree a rare catch this time of year.

[Smile] why couldn't someone catch a 40lb'r in summer? do the fish magically disappear or completely stop feeding during the summer months? I'm no expert with big stripers but, I would imagine they would still feed from time to time throughout summer.
people catch big stripers throughout the year down on Mohave, why not Mead? just sayin..[fishon]

decided to add this from a different post.. but made sense to this story..

And it says he got it in 200 ft of water. that's where the big fish are in the cold water with more oxygen. the warmer the water the less oxygen it contains...

Mark Eddison had a theory that the larger stripers were hanging out in deep water. Luckily for him his theory panned out when he reeled in a 30-pound striper. Eddison caught his trophy on a pink Spinnow in 60 to 70 feet of water near Sand Island. Top-water action remains good and many anglers are returning with full coolers. Those fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass have had success working coves with jerkbaits or crankbaits in about 20 to 40 feet of water. With the new moon, anglers can take advantage of the dark night by fishing under a light or using submersible lights."

They work but the smaller ones are hard to find.
