Hyrum 12-26-13
#1
Hit Hyrum this morning from 8-11:00 and I tried close to swim beach looking for a spot to take the low mobility part of the family. I'm afraid with short walks the catch goes down. Ended up with 3 planter bows and a trophy perch I even kept. The bows were 10 to 11" and the perch ya got to see to believe. Anyway got 3 on waxies and one on gulp worm tippings. They liked the small red rat finkie today, 3 on it and 1 on a glow jig. Pretty slow day but fished with a couple guys just taking up ice fishing, had a great visit on a pretty, cold day. Later J

Hey neighbor , I got ya beat!!!!

Good news is , I really have never caught as many 10 inch perch on hyrum as I have this year either, the pendulum is swinging both ways!

Action was hot early on, died right at 10

And has anyone caught one of these supposed 1200 "browns" that they claimed they realesed???

I know this trip wasn't really worth a post, but I thought I'd let people know not everyone is catching a hundred fish a day on the ice. In fact the high number I talked to today was 15 fish between 3 guys. Now I left at 11:00 so maybe things picked up and other areas were probably better, but I talked to several disappointed fishermen after all the big stories to end up with a light catch was a let down. So head out with reasonable expectations and hopefully they will be exceeded. Thanks for the comments. Later J

Wow, that is some perch. Wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes. Good thing I've got my reading glasses on, or I might have missed it altogether!

Words to live by there Jeff. Thus your handle. Go out expecting skunk, and you can't be left disappointed!

This was posted on Cache Valley Fishing, our Facebook group. I think some of those Browns are Brooders... look at the chewed up tails , and relative size. Courtesy the Furness's, they seem to have em dialed in.

You fishing Sat? If I can dig out sled and overalls.... who's got waxies in town?
At least ya got out. I'm stuck with 75 degrees and sunshine darn it. Wink

I don't know I think we need to put those two trophies head to head and see who got the winner.

I noticed today that when the bows were there my whole screen on the finder turned black and I'd catch a couple fish and then they would leave and I'd catch nothing for a long time. Oh and I caught a few of those browns, like 47 one day, but they were pretty beat up. See photo.

Wish I could do that on ice. Seems like location is so important for ice fishing and I'm not very good at finding the right spot. Fun to try though. Thanks for the comments. Later J.

Hey Yote, sounds like that So. Cal. Is treating you okay. I was down there for work last week and it was pretty nice. Anyway I think I will try Saturday, just not sure what is going to happen with the family all coming to town tomorrow. Got a nephew that loves to fish, but the girls may have other ideas that we can't squirm out of. Heard about the dreaded family pictures. Hope we can at least hit a morning trip. I'm not so sure I want to go back to Hyrum, Mantua has a lot bigger fish and Porcupine has a higher limit for 10" fish, plus they are a lot better eating. Not sure where to go.

Sportsman's had waxies the other day and I think about everyone is starting to get some in. Good luck J.
