Have had the whole family here for the Holidays - so I needed a day to regain my zen. Decided to go it solo on Starvation. When I arrived, after passing tent city at Strawberry/Soldier Creek and knowing of the tourney at Schofield, I had made the right choice. There were 3 cars at the west side of the bridge. I made the dirt slide down to the lake and picked the north side. One other group of 3 plus a dog got there at the same time. After no blips on the electronics and no bites in the first half hour, I moved across north, closer to the rocks on the far side. The other group moved as well. Pretty soon, I had them coming through on the finder in groups and was getting bites on most every pass. By noon I had my 4, all 17-19" Starvation Steelies. In the mean time a large family group came down and claimed the abandoned holes back by the bridge. It was time for me to leave. I had fish, had recharged my brain and it was time to get back to Christmas Vacation with the fam.
One note, on one of the poles, I tipped my jig with Berkley gulp maggots instead of the reliable night crawler. Earlier in the year, trolling for Kokes on Strawberry, we tipped the Kokanee rigs with the maggots and caught quite a few trout, as well as Kokanee, so I thought it was worth a try. I think the pole with the maggots caught about 2 to 1 over the worm. Not too scientific, but I think I like them for tipping the jigs when ice fishing.
