Fish Lake Tiger Muskies?
#1
OK I know there in there. Swam down from Johnsons. Has anyone boated one or know some one who has boated one from there? Going mac fishing there soon and as if getting skunked for one species isn't enough I need to get kicked twice in one day. All jokes aside the mac fishing we do usually dies off in the afternoon so we are thinking about, well we're going to target tiger muskies. Trolling for planters and catching dink perch not our cup of tea. Any info is appreciated. PMs welcome too.

Thanks

I volunteered a couple days on the perch relocation project the Division did in May. One of the days I was there we caught a 36" TM in the perch nets. It was in the shallows, inside the weedline near Joe's Bush.

Nice wet suit. You ever get any with a rod and reel?

I know that there have been a few surprises from Fish Lake. I've also heard of a few people targeting the TM's specifically by cruising the edge of the weeds and looking for them.

If I were to go after them specifically, I would fish either the northern or southern end of the lake where the weed line extends further out into the lake. Watch those open pockets and edges -- maybe you can get lucky?

Also, one point of clarrification: Fish Lake is UPSTREAM from Johnson, not down. Minor technicality.

Uhhh... that isn't me. I have not caught a tiger muskie out of Fish Lake. Anymore questions?

nope -- you answered.

(there have been a lot of spearfishing tiger musky takes at Fish Lake)

So tigers aren't C&R required at Fish lake I'd guess - if they can be spearfished. But isn't the Utah reg 1 over 40? Seems hard to measure before they get poked...

If that tiger was released, it's nicer to hold them horizontal - as has been suggested recently - and K2 rebumped her handling post. It's a good read.

(not picking on you PBH, just replied to the last of the thread...)

it's not just TM's that fall into this. How 'bout identification prior to spearing? Especially at Fish Lake where a splake and lake trout can be difficult to distinguish even when they are lying on the ice next to each other! I think this is why we see the regulation of only 1 trout over 28" at Fish Lake vs. 1 lake trout over 28".
Size requirements are a huge concern with spearing, in my eyes. But, here's the problem: how do you enforce anything with spearfishing? It's completely up to the person diving. If they screw up and spear something outside the legal limits, do they bring the fish to the surface and turn themselves in??
