strawberry 10/19/14

Strawberry was slow from the shore today the only luck we had from the shore was using a worm a few feet below a bubble. Caught a bunch of rainbows from the pontoon trolling pop gear and worm and a few cutts as well. We stayed at chicken creek west today 10/19/14

We were up there too. Got on the water about 9 with our personal pontoons. Moss was bad out to about 20' then it was little clumps here and there, then at 30' got really thick with spots that looked like bird droppings. No wind to speak of but the moss moved in as the morning went on. Fishing was really slow till 10, then is got hot and heavy. We left around 12:30 with still no wind. All my fish were caught deep in 32' to 40'.

Went to Strawberry today was blown away with the amount of algae across the entire reservoir. Some areas were as thick as pea soup and smelled really bad. Even the center of the reservoir had pockets so thick the spray and wake of the boat was pure green and brown - I've never seen it so bad! There were some areas along the shoreline the algae looked like a mad scientist petri dish experiment gone bad (mold on top the algae). [crazy]

Until we get some colder water temps, the algae bloom will make it really hard for shore fishing and shallow dragging top water lures and flies. All the fish we caught today were in clearer water areas using sinking line and wooley buggers around 20' down. The narrows and soldier creek side had clearer water and fishable along the shore line.

I was up in the Renegade area on the 18th and the algae was all over there too. Really thick in spots. I agree when the weather gets colder the algae will die off and won't be a problem
We trolled near the Horse Creek bay area for about three hours and caught 1 really nice Bow and 11 Cutts. We moved over to the Meadows area and in two hours caught another 20 or so. We actually lost count. All the Cutts were in the slot.
Great day, very little wind and the water temp was 52 degrees.
