BearLake 10-25-14
#1
I have fished Bear lake for the last 2 weekends , I have to say that the Spawn is definitely on , the fish are stacking . I have fished the East side last weekend and yesterday with Petty4life and the catching was far and few between. Jason caught a nice 7-lb. Cut last weekend , there were only about 4 fish caught last Saturday. Yesterday we did catch fish once again only a few. The Biggest was a nice 5-lb. Native Cut , and one about 2lb's and several self releasers . Water temp was 57.6 degrees we tried about everything in the tackle box. Sorry guys no pics.

Glad I could tag along, nice to see you guys. Now I know where the east side is.
Can't say much for the catching, but weather was great, and the fishing was fine and dandy. Sure marked up enough on the finder. At least you guys got some hits and hooked up a few. We know the birds enjoyed the spoils of war.

Now if Jason was as adept at catching as he is at smack talk over the radio... who knows. We threw long ones, short ones, fat ones and skinny ones. Tried depths of 80-30ft in 60-150fow. Mostly about 1.5mph.

Here's a couple shots from the adventure.

Thanks for the report Dan, sounds like some slow catching but at least it wasn't a skunk. I know Old Coot was suppose to be up there yesterday as well, did you see him?

I got a message from Old Coot last night when I got home . He did not make the trip because he heard that there were going to be high winds.

LOL, if we did not go fishing because of bad weather reports, that would end half of all our trips. BL is one of those lakes where you never know if you can trust weather reports.

Amen to that comment Curtis. You never know the weather and if you don't go, you'll never get out fishing.

Well, I did go fishing, just not to Bear Lake. After watching the weather reports, it looked like there was going to be more wind the further north you went so we opted to go south to Strawberry ... AGAAAAAAIN.

Question for you Bear Lake guys; How much longer do you think the mack spawn will run? I am wondering if it will still be quite active this week.

Yea, I know, not going up yesterday as I said I would probably makes me not deserving of an answer to my question but hey, can't hurt to ask.

Hey, we all change our minds, no reason to think you don't deserve an answer because of a change in plans, at least you go out fishing. With this Fall being warmer than normal, I see no reason the BL mack spawn won't continue for another week or so, at least until Nov 7th or so. Seems like in years gone by the bigger fish always spawned toward the end of the season.

Your right about that Curt. It will be at least another week before I can head back up to the big blue. Our 40th anniversary is coming up this weekend and I'm on my best behavior not to mention anything about fishing. [sly] I'm hoping the bite will turn back on by the time I make my next appearance.

The laker spawn typically goes until about Nov 10-15 or so at Bear Lake. However, the earlier spawning fish are already beginning to feed since we caught a few in the nets last week and saw they were eating fish. The pre-spawn fish are not feeding. Fishing this weekend was better than the last couple of weeks. Also, starting to see fewer lakers off the marina in the evenings too.
