Tent Shelter Tip

This may be of some use to a few of you. I found I had a bugger of a time getting the ice anchors in for my Eskimo tent shelter so I did the following: I took a cordless drill motor and a bit a little smaller than the threads on the anchor and drilled holes around the base to screw in the anchors. They screwed in easily and made for setting up the shelter a lot easier.

I'm not sure if you know , but you can get an adaptor for your Cordless drill that will allow you to drill your anchors into the ice without having to predrill holes.

Not a bad tip there. I have never done it and often thought it would be a good idea. However, I wouldn't even drill them "a little smaller than the threads of the anchor". I'd drill them the same size because, unlike drilling pilot holes in wood or metal, those holes will fill in and freeze up anyway even without drilling them a little undersized. But either way, sure beats trying to screw them into ice without a pilot holes.

And ... these days, with guys buying electric drill motor type augers, the drill motor can be used to drill the pilot holes as well as the auger ice holes.

Another Ice Fishing Tent Tip:

Wax the ball joints in the hubs of the tent support rods to allow intended by design movement with the wind, so they don't get in a bind and break.

I have the big five sided tent and that's what they told me when I bought it.

I remember sports mens warehouse had an attachment that you put on your drill then attach it to the power away. I cant remember what company makes them but if you call the one in Midvale I'm sure they will be able to tell you which one and how much it cost.

With the clam drill plate, the drill chuck is removed, so there is no multipurpose use of the drill. Would need a second, and I've seriously considered bringing the cheap b&d just for tent screws.

Clam makes them and they fit into the drill chuck. I made my own. Now I use an Eskimo anchor that has a shaft with a lot of taper (newer ones) and they go in a lot easier. They are $12 for two. Or start a hole with them then use the cheap straight anchors

Is the five sided more user friendly that the 6x6 four sided. Room for three and 6 rods?

I chose this five sided ice fishing tent for a variety of features with the most important to me being a rounder shape than a four sided tent because that is more sturdy to high winds.

When spraying leaves down the driveway with your garden hose which is very effective, occasionally there will be one stubborn leaf that won't budge as if it's glued down. Spray steadily and directed right at it and it just stays right there. Then pick it up and look at it. The difference is it's dome shape that let's the high pressure stream of water just flow around it as it pushes it down while the other leaves are lifted up and washed away. I'm thinking the rounder a tent is the more it will by nature of that shape resist strong gusting winds.

The six sided tent also presents a close to round shape to the wind and I would favor it slightly except I liked some of the other features of this tent. I like that it's all black to gain solar heat the best. I like the windows all the way around. It is fairly large and taller than most. I like that the fabric is heavy and the stitching is sturdy.
