It's been a tough year for us trolling at the berry. Last night we tolled all over the haws point area and out in the middle of the bay. We were marking a lot of fish but only manage to get three takers. Threw everything we had at em. Bring on the fall fishing I'm done with summer.

Oh no! Let's not end this great warm weather Berry fishing yet! Heck, just last week, we boated 29 cuts before we left at noon! Course, we weren't trolling ... we were jigging.

Jigging huh!, I have never jigged for them in the summer. Just the fall when they are in there feeding frenzy. Guess I might have to give it another go.

What do you like to jig with old coot? 2.5" tubes? I have never jigged up at the berry either but hear of a lot of people doing it.

Yup ... the lure I start with, and often stay with all day, is the Fresh Water Basics 2 ½ inch pearl white holigraph with a 3/8 oz. jig head. I catch my own chub and tip the jigs with one, two, and sometimes even three pieces of cut chub. Jigg right off the bottom in about 35 feet of water on a point or hump. Pretty much the same lure and tactics as in the Fall but on the other deeper end of the lake.

I was up at there berry last week using jigs. The cutts were all over them. It's a great way to pick up fish thoughout the day without trolling.

So, Everyone. I've been fishing for a lot of years, but up till now I've been stuck on the shore in the Spring and Fall, except when a friend invites me along. I now have a pontoon boat and want to re-explore new trout opportunities at Deer Creek and Strawberry.
Mostly, I've bait fished, but would love to learn how to jig fish as well. Any suggestions for this weekend?
I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Welcome to BFT! If you decide to go out be careful both weather wise and people wise. It will be busy. Bounce jigs off the bottom. This will trigger a bite.

When my bride is along most of the time we jig just by letting 30'- 40' of line out. Wind jigs for us and we just kick back and enjoy the time out.
Catch lots of cuts doing this.
When I'm with serious fishers we rarely fish this way however.
