Mackay was great on Christmas Eve. The kokes are 10-11." The ice was about 8" although I'm sure its much more thick now. We were killing them on small pink jigs like a rat finkie below a flasher.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys. Fished mackay new years day. It was cold and breezy and the fishing was awesome. It was -15 when we got there that morning and we were the only people dumb enough to fish in it. People started showing up at about ten and it was still -2 at that point. The fish were hitting for us on anything pink as long as you kept the jigs moving. We limited on Kokanee and only had one trout. Good luck to yall and hope to hear back from you!

After you get your limlt of kokanne . If you want to catch trout , move into shallow water .

One other thing i just thought of. . .take plenty of meal worms. Its better to have to many than not enough and have to run to the store[Smile]

Fished today and Fishing is still pretty good as explained previously. Took us a little bit to find fish that were consistently willing to bite, but when we found a group/they decided to bite, it was non stop. Used a small white and pink ice jig , and my dad used pink crappie jigs with a white skirt. Most fish were 10-11 inches with a couple that were 11.5-11.75. Fished mostly on the bottom in 30 fow, but caught some all throughout the water column. Had a great time and the weather was pleasant! Thanks for all the help!

There will be several ice shantys in tne middle of the lake , that is where the
Kokannee will be . Anything pink is best . The limit is now 15 per person . Plus you can have 6 trout . For trout fish close to the bank in shallow water .

Be sure you get there early. The fish were biting good until about noon. Then they shut off.

My dad has been in the area since I posted a couple days ago. The fishing has remained good. Yesterday I talked to him and he was extremely blown away... He caught a 6 inch perch. someone else mentioned to him that they had heard of a crappie being caught in the recent past. Anyone else run into perch or other warm water species at mackay? Blown away by the fact that (assumedly) people would think nothing is wrong with releasing perch or other species into a lake without thinking about the consequences. Not saying this will lead to anything crazy, but I just wish people would think before they decided to make a decision like that.

I don't have any recent updates, but maybe some general info will help. We fished the main campground area/boat ramp where most of the ice shacks were. I had a flasher which really helped finding where the fish were, but on most occasions the fish were coming right off the bottom. We used small white ice jigs with a pink head, and the most important thing was tipping it with about a half a meal worm. Unless you find a more active group of fish, the bite was extremely light and having the pole in your hand vs in a rod holder was a must. We fished in about 30 fow, and only one day did we catch fish anywhere but on the bottom. I would jig slightly, or let my jig touch bottom and pull it off slowly to get many of my bites. I think the best thing to do if you don't have a flasher is to slowly let your jig down in five foot intervals, jig a bit, and see if you get bites as work your way down the column. Once to the bottom I would spend some time there between jigging and letting it stay still in your hand. Lots of bites occurred immediately after jigging took place when the jig was still. The ice was really thick, and it was pretty cold up there the days after I left, so a power auger is highly suggested. If you need any other info that I may have missed, PM me or post it on here. Good luck!
