Just getting started on the forum here. Moved to UT from MT about 2.5 years ago. I did a lot of stream and river fishing for trout there. I am finding some good opportunities here as well. I have recently taken a strong interest in catfishing. I heard about the site from a Youtube video and saw it was a great source for info and connecting with others. I am looking forward to hitting Utah Lake a few more times this summer to see if I can figure these kitties out. Glad to join the forums.

Welcome to BFT HNFUT !
This IS the place.........
Very helpful and generous group on the forum.
I'd have to say Utah Lake is the venue for catfishing in Utah.
Everyone been doing quite well. I've been down in my FishCat pontoon 3 times in the last week and caught lots of cats in the 22"- 28" range each time. My baits of choice are carp meat, white bass, shrimp, night crawlers and just about anything else you can get on a hook(they aren't real picky). A lot of times you can work little jigs and spinners (tip them with a pinch of crawler) in the rocky areas and catch white bass for bait. You will find the majority of the cats are holding in water around 3' deep. Utah Lake is very low right now it's easier to get depth in a boat but people do very well from the bank also. A lot of guys will wade out in the lake up to their waist to get to deeper water. The entire lake produces cats, I particularly like the southern shore line. Lincoln Beach is very productive right now, but anywhere along that Goshen Bay road will give up nice catfish. Send follow forum member TubeDude a PM inquiring about his writings on Utah Lake(very informative). I don't know anyone that knows as much about that lake as he does. Hope this helps, once you get into 'em you will be hooked, lots of fun. Good Luck to you !

Welcome aboard! I grew up here in the 80's & 90's when our fisheries were probably a lot like you are used to up in MT, mostly trout. Then I moved to Southern California in the Navy for 10 years and found out how much I LOVE warm water fishing! I moved back here about 3 years ago to find that the Utah DWR has concentrated on improving our warmer water species and has done an awesome job! We still have great Trout and Kokanee fisheries, but once you get hooked on catching Wiper, Walleye, Crappie and decent cats...You may not be as interested in trout as you once were! I still love catching trout too, but the variety and diversity here is awesome!
