Trolling for catfish?
#1
Was at Willard yesterday trying to catch some wiper. It was pretty slow for me but we did manage one catfish that took the rapala. I never would have guessed I would have hooked up a catfish while trolling. Stopped the boat to let my son pull her in. Before we started up again I asked my nephew to pull in the other rod. He did and we had a massive carp that had taken our other rapala. So strange. My nephew loved pulling in the big carp...even though it was just a carp. I wish they were wiper though.

So I have read somewhere about smoking catfish. Can someone give me some pointers? I'd like to experience what is go great about smoked catfish.

Thanks in advance.

[#0000FF]Summer is a good time to troll for cats around the dikes at Willard. They will hit a wide variety of lures. In years past I used to throw perch finish and bright orange CD 5 and 7 Rapalas. And they hit a lot of different crawdad patterns too. These days they feed on shad, just like all the other species, so any lure you fish for wipers or walleye can get hit by kitties as well.

I have been smoking cats for decades. Love 'em. Especially those tasty little cookie cutter cats from Willard.

Here is a writeup I put together. Everybody has their own favorite ways of doing things but this method turns 'em out the way I like 'em. A lot of my friends and relatives like 'em too. Hard to keep any around for my own enjoyment.
