So there i was... waiting for my fishing buddies to get to my house. The time was 5:00 am, that was when they were supposed to show up. 5:15 i pick up my phone and gave them a call...voice mail! I settle in with a nice cup of coffee and wait. At roughly 7:00 my phone goes off and they say they slept through the alarm and are on their way, New years was a little rough for the two of them. 7:30 we are in the car and on our way with plenty of coffee in hand. We arrive at Mackay at 9:00...ish and start getting set up. We get the Ice hut set up with the heater going full bore and start fishing. A couple minutes in my buddy lands a decent Kokanee so i figure its about to get crazy. About an hour later he lands another one and leaves the other two of us skunked so far. A couple hours later the same guy lands one more, three for him and none for the rest of us. We tried throwing everything we had at the kokes as well as moving around a couple of times but the final score was three kokes for my buddy and the smelly skunk for the rest of us. The fishing was amazing but the catching just didnt cooperate. The ice was about 14 inches thick with a couple inches of snow on top. There was even a truck out on the ice near us. There is always next time!
